Mostly bewildered
When I first started proper paid working, my dream/fantasy was to work part time, at least partly so I would be able to spend some time with my daughter, who was quite young in those days, and go to her school things, but also just so I could do things I wanted to, rather than just things I was paid to.
Of course, I couldn't possibly have worked part time back then - as it was, I was actually worse off when I started working, since there was no money for childcare in those days, and I also had to pay for transport to work, etc. etc.
Anyway, I am now getting paid a lot more in real terms than I was back then, but I am still working full time (and some - still working now, in between posting on here!), but, of course, I will never earn enough money to go part time.
That's not because I don't get paid enough money to go part time, really. It's because, every time I get a pay rise, I adjust my lifestyle a little bit to encompass it. For example, back in the day, I used to resent the fact that I worked really hard and long hours but could rarely afford even a takeaway, never mind a meal out. Now, I can afford frequent takeaways, and even to have a meal in a restaurant, but it feels like the novelty will never wear off
I suspect it is too late for me to learn how to save money, too! I have no savings. If I lose my job, I also lose my house!
Oh well. I love my job, so that shouldn't matter
Anyway, back to work!
