Who do you vote for in 2015 General Election?

He's suggesting that as you are not a tory voter you cannot split the tory vote. Only tory voters can.

The local polls nearer the election could suggest otherwise? I can see me spoiling, voting Green, or possibly Labour or just not voting. Save the NHS doctors might have a local candidate but have not seen any local news on that so far?

I'm thinking of having a rubber stamp made up that reads "None of the above shower of crooks, halfwits and egomaniacs", and just using that every time a general election comes round. Local elections, I bother with. GEs, though, there's little point.

The local polls suggest that non-tory voters can split the tory vote? I'm not following you here. But the point is that you, as a non-tory voter, cannot split the tory vote no matter what you do - only traditional tory voters voting for a non-tory candidate can split the tory vote.

Looking at your seat, it's a pretty safe tory seat, so it doesn't really matter what you do really.

But what is the point of what you suggest?

Politically, there's no point. Our system is pretty much rigged so that only certain sections of society ever achieve enough representation to be able to legislate, and even then they tend (at least in our neoliberal "Brave New World") to only legislate in line with what their interests (in both meanings of the word) indicate.
In terms of self-amusement, though, there's plenty of point!

If I'm living where I am now, or nearby, then Kerry McCarthy will be my MP whatever I choose to do

If I've moved back to either Bristol West or North West then voting Labour will help remove either Stephen WIlliams (useless LD) or Charlotte Lesley (Tory).

So, if I'm in Bristol East then likely no vote or hope for a Class War candidate. If W or NW then Labour.

I shall vote Labour in Clacton. Last GE vote was 53% Tory, 25% Labour & LD 12.9%. I guess there will be a UKIP candidate at next GE.
See, that's an example of somewhere where a UKIP candidate combined with the LD vote collapsing into Labour could lead to a result which may be closer than is comfortable for the Tories. Not a loss I should think, but closer

Its possible, plenty of right wing Tory potential UKIP voting nutters in Clacton. Rumours that MP Carswell(who even Cameron regards as a cunt:D) may defect to UKIP, but somehow I doubt it. Dunno if unemployed will be bothered to vote but most I know blame it all on immigrants so I suspect they would be UKIP fodder.

Hackney North and Stoke Newington. Diane Abbott will be weighing her votes as usual without any help from me.

Sian James, reasonably good local Labour MP here in Swansea East as it happens, has recently retired --we think for disillusioned reasons.

She had a 10,000-plus majority last time.

No idea yet who the new Labour, or nu-Lab :hmm: , candidate will be.

May?? vote for them if they're OK. It's easier to do that in Wales. But if they're shit, I'll either vote fringe-radical, or not vote at all.

Might have a whip-round for a deposit and run myself.

Although the local Labour MP is actually alright. He's got a better voting record than most of his party colleagues. Maybe I'd feel bad about costing him his job.

e2a: I've looked up his record on asylum issues and I've decided he can fuck off after all. Westminster here I come.

After 11 years in safe Labour seats spoiling my ballot (or voting Green, same thing) I now have an absolute tosser of a conservative MP with a 16,000 majority. Will be tempted to vote labour but don't see it actually happening.

Who do I vote for in a Conservative safe seat?

Like most people your vote doesn't count, so you may as well vote for any candidate whose personality and party policies closest reflect yours, regardless of their chance of winning. If none does then spoil or abstain. Some would say run yourself, but it's hard to be an indie at generals. You can easily disappear beneath the waves with a lot of hard work. If one has serious non mainstream ambition of office then running local is the thing, though a general election campaign can build profile. You could always put yourself up for a party such as LU or Green if there isn't a candidate already, and depending on their selection/constitution critirea.

What's the point other than as a cathartic release. OTOH if people did this on mass backed up with a publisized campaign of some sort, it might serve at least as a becon of dissent I suppose.

As for me, I dunno. As a general principle, I'll vote Labour to keep the Libdems or Tories out. I am in a safe Labour seat ATM.

Obv I hadn't read this far before replying. :D

fuck knows, either Labour or Alliance for Green Socialism if the labour candidate turns out to be a new labour stooge.

Actually, I think I ought to find out more and AGS as they're probably closest to where I am politically.

Every individual who, in the current state of affairs, drops a paper into the ballot box to choose a legislative authority or an executive authority is - perhaps not wittingly but at least out of ignorance, maybe not directly, but at least indirectly - a bad citizen.
Just looked up that quote, so train of thought for the disillusioned voters in 1850 was very similar to present day then

Even if I were inclined to vote there'd be little point. It's a Labour seat with a 12.5k majority.

In the General? Probably Labour. Though if CW stand then they'll get my vote and a few hours of my time.

However, given my hatred of the Labour Party there's a good chance I won't be able to bring myself to do it. In which case spoiling is likely unless TUSC or LU or someone can convince me otherwise.
