I reject this idea of a "Chelsea generation" ...

Most "new fans" are just little kids who like the idea of supporting a winning team they get to see on TV a lot

so... you reject the idea of a "chelsea generation"....

whilst describing it exactly... all in one post. :p

I blame the fathers. :(

of course there will be a chelsea generation and of course they will be hateful little shits. I mean it's one thing glory hunting behind Man Utd who have a rich history and always play with a certain style or flair, and i'd even say the same about Arsenal and Liverpool, but the Chelski scum have to be one of the least inspiring teams ever, their games are so fucking dull they use in my ma's nursing home to get the residents to sleep.

i am not voting in your stupid poll

Agreed, so I guess 2-0 to you Revol :D

I'd support Barca more if it wasn't for the whinging catalan nationalist petite bourgeois scum that use them as a platform.

Oh sorry it's terrible the oppression those catalans live under, what with having to support Andulisian peasants and the like.;) :D

3rd generation Man Utd...
Me too. My grandad used to be a season ticket holder. Although I'm not sure if my father was technically a supporter because even though he used to go with my grandad he apparently only went for the pies.

I suppouse you don't think Lampards a real Chelski player then?:D

Ha ha...and you forgot our constant moaning about Real's preferential treatment...at the hands of the anti-independence overlords in Madrid :D :D

I can't help it - family have been members since about 1920, so it's ingrained.

I live in England. Doesn't mean I gotta support an English team. If I want to support a team for the quaity of their play (as opposed to blind loyalty!) it'd have to be Barca.

That isn't what I've done at all. I merely pointed out that new fans of clubs like Chelsea are mainly little kids who like the look of a winning team and one they can see on telly. But I reject the notion of a 'Chelsea generation' - i.e. a whole generation of fans who will mostly grow up supporting them – as I suspect that Man United and Arsenal attract easily as many new fans as the Blues do. United remain the biggest club in the world, while Arsenal have the world's first or second most bankable player in Thierry Henry.

You're over-generalising...

But those kids will probably still be Chelsea fans in 20 years time - just like the kids who were Liverpool fans in the 80s or Man Utd fans more recently for just the same reason.

But I think using the term 'Chelsea generation' implies that the club is going to have a stranglehold on all new fans of the game like Liverpool did in the 70s and I just don't think that's the case. I bet there have been easily as many new Man U fans in the last three years as Chelsea.

Man Utd fan in "up his own arse" shocker.

These cunts invented arrogance....

Is surrounding the referee after every decision a "certain style of flair"?

I'm a Leeds fan BTW, looking forward to our 3rd division tour.

With you there

It's Colchester and Southend before this season's out

Next season the grounds will be even more unfamiliar

Fucking Leeds United, "it was six years ago when they were in the Champ...."

Oh yeah, shit poll no fans...........

Etc

I don't think Liverpool had a stranglehold of all new fans in the 70s though. It doesn't need to be universal to be a real effect. I might favour something less flattering than 'Chelsea generation' myself but the thread has been fairly polite so far.:p

Cheeky! :D I think what I'm trying to say is that despite the titles we've won and some of the big-name players we've got (Lampard, Terry and Drogba being the most high-profile), I still think the club is a long way from capturing the public imagination in the same way that Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal have done in times past. It isn't just about winning things, it's about history and style of play as well. Chelsea have got an interesting history but not an especially successful or glamouress one, while even Mourinho would admit his team's playing style is hardly the most free-flowing and exciting.
