I'm getting these too... I'm thinking there must be a dust particle inside the lens which obviously I can't clean... Should I take it somewhere so they can open the lens apart and clean it up? Or it that just dust particles?

here's an example:

I didn't use to get them until recently... (only seems to happen with flash photos)

Are you wearing any shiny jewellery like a ring that is at front of the camera and so able to reflect the flash back into the lens? Other than that idea I am baffled. They look like internal reflections in the lens but there are no bright reflective parts to the subject being photographed.

That is my best shot on this one. :confused:

I am completely at a loss here. I wondered about mirrors off out of sight but there would be bright patches of light on the subject and there aren't. :confused::confused::confused:

my slightly odd mate who believes in all things psychic and magical insists that these "Orbs" are spiritual energy,

What are Ghosts & Orbs?
Orbs are believed (by many) to be ghosts in the form of balls of light. They are life forms that travel in groups and are believed to be the human soul or life force of those that once inhabited a physical body here on earth. Psychics claim to talk to them on a regular basis, and ghost hunters encounter them quite frequently. It is said that they are those spirits that have willingly stayed behind because they feel bound to their previous life or previous location for whatever reason. Because of this obsession they tend to become similar to a psychotic human beings. It should be said that the majority of us when we die proceed gladly and willingly to the next level of existence after saying our quiet good-byes, which means we're off to the spirit world. Then again, as stated, a select few elect to stay behind because of a refusal to move on. Apparently the longer they stay behind, the harder it is to find their way to the next level, which again, is the spirit world.

I don't believe it I think its lights reflecting, anytime i try and argue this she comes out with the gem "Its been proved"

This is no hlep to you really, so I'll go

Yeah, agreed that they're orbs, but orbs aren't spirits as such. They are manifestations of the spiritual energy which ghosts must harness in order to take on a form which is visible to us mere mortals. Your sister, like a number of other people, clearly attracts or is a conduit for such energy, like a lightning conductor, meaning that latent spiritual energy becomes visible. Usually this is only apparent in photos due to wavelength disturbance and negative energies given off by non-believers.

I did a test on this ages ago... Still got the pics;

Basically dropped a piece of dust in front of the camera (quite close) and shot with flash... Can't remember if that one was water or dust (think I did both), some tit was wittering on about ghosts on here (prob general) so decided to prove where they came from. Water on the lens actually looks quite similar;

The easiest way to work out what's wrong is to turn off the flash, give your glass a proper clean and take photos against a blank white wall, moving the camera a bit with each shot. If you consistently get that effect it's probably dust on the CCD, or the nightmare scenario of damage (which I have a nasty feeling is afflicting my D70).

Oh, and if it's on the CCD it tends to be dark smudges, rather than the orbs.
