Which version should I go for Vista 32-bit or 64-bit

32bit then. tvm. Does the fact that there's no mention of SP1 mean it's not there and has to be manually installed?

What exactly is the Vista Enable Advanced Hard drive Performance? Does that mean turning off some new fangled safety feature to gain a speed increase in HD access times?

I remember the massive jump from NT4 to 2k at work, and that was a delight all things told.
XP took those evolutions and refined them nicely. Vista really doesn't seem to offer that much to your average corporate user for yer money.

History repeats itself. When XP came out everyone said the same thing as they do now about Vista; not worth the upgrade; bloated; so much slower. We'll see the same crap being said about Windows 7 and Vista soon enough.

I think you're wrong. The rumours about 7 seem to suggest Microsoft are maybe moving in the opposite direction, with the core OS running in a mere 40MB. The fact that they're trying to bring it out so early, while extending the lifespan of XP I take to mean that they think Vista's a turkey too.
Personally I've been looking to ditch Windows completely but I think I'll reserve judgment until 7's available.

Windows 7 isn't going to be around until 2011, at the very least : http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/28/windows-7-isnt-headed-for-2009-says-microsoft-more-like-2011/

If you're going to ditch it, then ditch it as soon as you can... :D

I know its the default reaction to say it will be delayed for years and years because of what happened with Vista, although I don't think they'll make the same mistake again.

They always make the same mistakes. Its Microsoft... Windows 7 is unlikely to be around before (realistically) 2014...
