Which train/underground station is London's most intimidating?

the rail line that went through West Sutton, St Helier, etc was often fairly unpleasant. The West Sutton station, aside from being utterly covered in bird shit was just unpleasant at all times, and the only place I was involved in any sort of physical aggro in 10 years in London. But then I hate Sutton generally. Everyone seemed angry, all the time.

i don't like waiting at stonebridge park after dark - the fact that bakerloo line trains terminate at willesden junction when the train has to go through one more stop to get to the depot says it all i think.

i also find kings cross mainline a bit intimidating, mainly cos the last couple of times i've been there its been rush hour and everyone seems to be scowling :(

Bromley South at pub kicking out time!

I can't tell you the nightmares I've had there. I've always been relieved to get back to Brixton!! :p

silverlink - north woolwich-west

try to take silverlink train from north woolwich, this going through stratford, camden town...
every station is, mhhm, intesting...and the smell...

terrorist advice, carpetners road, entrance to railway ground, open without any padlock, itp. you can go to the yard with several "one" trains parked there :-)

Oh, a friend of mine was attacked at Clapham North overground a few years ago...apparently it wasn't a one-off.....I think they eventually arrested a bloke for attacking lone women at that station...I've never used it myself. On the whole I'll use buses if at all possible.

That's another unpleasant station (Clapham High Street): dark, dingy and smelling of piss, the ideal magnet for muggers. I often used to see some real dodgy types lurking about in the passageway.

That'll teach you to go out in Bromley then! :p ;)

I go to visit my mum in Grove Park.... I haven't "been out" in Bromley for years...

Bromley used to be a pretty cool place you know!

Indeed, up until about 1979 when the Bromley Contingent sold out to the new chrome dawn of the 'me' decade...

 :(

oi... it was still cool when I was a pub going teenager in the mid-late 80s..... :D

All the cool pubs have either closed down now though or been taken over and poncified. :(

The other week I was caught out at Holloway Road lift, late at night, and the only other person getting off at the same time was a man. I'm sure he was quite a respectable man, but I just don't like getting in an enclosed lift with only 1 other person of the opposite sex. There is nothing you can do to defend yourself if something goes wrong.

It's only a few steps to get upstairs on Holloway Rd., I don't think I've ever used the lift on that station. So if you find yourself there again, just walk up the stairs (assuming you're not disabled, apologies if you are), it takes no longer than 20 secs. :)

Yeah, that's a real shame - Bromley's quite a big place and I can't think of one single genuinely cool pub anywhere within a two-mile radius of the centre. :(

I thought that Scruffy Murphy's at the top edge of the Glades was quite sound - until it got turned into a comparatively soulless Firkin or something about three years ago.

Well before that it was the 3 Compasses - from a very young age I remember going past it and there would be up to 50 choppers parked up outside it - it was a bikers pub. When I got to about 16 I would go there and it was a brilliant pub... all sorts in there.. sticky floor and smoke stained ceiling - but the it felt like home! I had my 18th there and went on to the Venue which was another great place.

This was all pre-Glades - which ripped the heart out of Bromley.

RIP :(

Same thing happened to Southampton. It was always a bit of a shithole, but at least a familiar one - until they built the enormous, brutalist West Quays shopping centre which not only sucked all the trade out of the centre but wiped out about seven decent pubs in the process - including my favourite dingy nocturnal beer pit, Thursdays. :(

You know I just remembered this wasn't actually at Holloway Road but at Belsize Park. It probably is only a few steps up there as well and I just didn't realise...I just don't like getting onto lifts with one other person I don't know.

Glad to know that about Holloway, though, as I use that much more frequently.

Belsize Park must be one of the deepest tube stations in London. I certainly wouldent want to walk up the stairs on a regular basis. I used to use it a lot (ex lived just by) and normally lots of people got off there and used the lift. So shouldent normally be any problem here.
