Netto and Fotex, both owned by the same company. Seriously, you guys don't even know you are born, the choice in Uk supermarkets shits all over them here and the prices are through the roof.
I tend to get meat from the halal butchers and we get an organic veggie box every other week.

I very very rarely go to the supermarket, not so much out of anti-corporate sentiment but because the nearest supermarket is a Tesco Metro which is right across from, er, Shepherds Bush Market. I go in there to see what's reduced or on special offer, sometimes, and also to get their bread which is okay, and sometimes cheese (this isn't a good area for cheese) but that's it really. Why go there when I can get everything else cheaper and with a better selection at market stalls and cash-and-carries?

There's a big Morrisons a way further down which has a lot of stuff, but it's not particularly cheap and big supermarkets like that give me the fear. I've only been there about three times.

Depends on how much time I have - Sainsbury is 2 minute walk so tend to get most stuff there especially the heavier stuff, Tesco is a 10 minute walk so I go there when I want a change and M&S / Waitrose are 15 minutes on the bus and I go there when I have the time and when I want to be sure I'm going to get food I'll really like.

Guffaw at "independant business" option
Because of the spelling or because you're an idiot?:confused:

I do as little shopping in supermarkets as possible: for the most part the only food they sell that's "cheaper" is processed crap. However, ASDA (300 yards away) is the only local source of real coffee or halfway decent cheese.:(

I have tesco just around the corner. It is cheap too, especially if you look closely at the prices - yesterday I got Four Roses bourbon bottle for 8 pounds :]

Somerfield, mostly. Because it is near Norwood Junction station, and near me, and open until 10pm.

I also go to Tesco Express quite often, because there is one near me which is open even later.

If I need a big supermarket, I go to Sainsbury on the CP Football site.

Once a year I go to Waitrose.

Whatever's nearest - so Tesco - by miles - though I'm trying to get into the habit of using my local Aldi and even a local greengrocer.

Bearing in mind they sell almost exclusively frozen food, what did you expect to find there?

I think you misunderstand my sentiment. Pizzas is just one of the many examples of frozen food, all of which I think is lame (with the exception of peas).

Now quit your fucking nitpicking.

Morrie's and Netto and sometimes Saisnbury's cos it's nearer than any other but I avoid it if I can cos it's more expensive. I've just got a juicing machine (note to self: start thread on juicing) and buy loads of carrots, apples, oranges and root ginger - these are much cheaper in Netto/Morries than elsewhere.

thats quite shocking, i would have thought you might have an outdoor market near you. i would be annoyed if i had to pay £1 for a bag of carrots instead of 50p for 5 pounds of carrots

I forgot about M&S, because I don't really think of them as a supermarket. But I often stop off there on my way home, because they have got a branches at Victoria and Waterloo stations, and I would go much more often if they hadn't closed down the one near Ikea on Purley Way, which I only just discovered about a month before they closed it (in fact, I only discovered it because I read an article about them closing it down!).

I've got Waitrose and M&S near to me at work, Tescos, M&S, Iceland and Sainsburys nearby to home. I kind of flit between them from time, doing most of my shopping from the market and local shops - cheaper and better food that way. Supermarkets only really make sense around me when there are special deals or the tramps buffet on.

I only really buy meat, the occasional lunch snack and top up veg from Waitrose. I'm more than occasionally shocked by how crap and overpriced a lot of their produce is. Their fruit and veg can be grand, but what sort of knobby numpty would buy a £2 pack of plantain chips (generally 60-70p). You've got to watch your back in there - it's a bit of 'I saw you coming' shop at times. The 'nice' image wears a little thin when you see some of the dubious stock on display. Their espresso coffee is good value mind

To be honest I find them all as bad as each other in the main. Whatever one offers me the best and cheapest produce. No loyalty here really.

50p...............bloody hell even our market is dearer than that..........in fact the nearest market is not that much cheaper (not as cheap as Lidl for instance) and it's shut down by the time I finish work so i hardly ever use it !

well maybe its 70p

definitely under £1 anyway.

what do you get in a supermarket bag of carrots? a kilo (2.2lb)? so if it was £1 for 5lb on the market, its still less than half the cost

i did but i regretted it because i dont even like carrots. i only use them for stock and ended up throwing a lot of them in the rabbit hutch as they started to go off about 2 weeks later :(

Morrisons are nearest and still better than the crappy little Tesco that opened in Bramley.

However, over the last few weeks they've stopped selling the coffee I like, Purdeys and the soft drinks I like.

No other supermarket nearby to compete though. :(

Mainly Sainsburys, though I also use M&S, Waitrose and Bugdens. I haven't the stomach for the more lower brow stores.

youre right lidl does sell pretty good stuff, eg. parmigiano reggiano, and OK-ish mozzarella (even though its cheap stuff made in Germany). their veg is good as well, some of it non-packaged and most non-refrigerated (although i dont doubt it was refridgerated in transit, which means the tomatoes dont have the best flavour)

there is a load of shite there too, i suppose it depends what you set out to buy, which determines whether you're going to end up with good stuff or shite stuff

Why didn't you buy the decent stuff then? Lidl do plenty of good stuff, either that or you're weird.

They do ! Got my middle son to take me there this morning (it's two bus rides away from me) and i got a good lot of stuff !

I'd actually prefer a Lidl near me simply because of the quality. There was one in Tottenham Hale when I lived there and it was great.

I do our big main shop at Waitrose, then go to Sainsbury's in between which is usually every fucking day as I have a teenager who eats everything.:p
