Which job sounds better to you?

I can do your excel for you :D

Thank you. I'll tell them I come with a friend so will need another chair.

Well, I've had a conversation today that gives me the impression that they definitely want someone every day so I've made it clear that I'll finish on the 31st July in that case. :)

Worse case scenario if I don't get the school job is that I get the summer off and start looking for a job when we get back from holiday. I can live with that.

*Gets 'borrowed' black pen out and starts filling in application form* :hmm: I'm going to say that I can use excel to intermediate level and swot up in the meantime......... :D

Job 1

25 hours a week
9.45 - 2.45

Pro's

I can drop little one at school and pick him up every day
Lovely job, interesting, great people on the whole
Know the place well
Feel comfortable

Cons

Childcare during school holidays......... :(

Job 2

33 1/2 hours a week
8.30 - 3.30
All school holidays off

Pro's

Obviously the school holidays
Within walking distance from my house
More money

Cons

Would need someone to take to and collect little un from school and look after him which he wouldn't be happy with
New environment and new people
Longer working week - not ideal when I'm barely coping with the 25 hours I do now.
Dealing with teenagers.......

They are both paying a similar hourly wage but I don't need much money so the salary isn't really important. It's the practical side of things that I'm trying to get clear in my head.

Which do you think sounds better ?

the first one, without doubt!

Would it be an option to negotiate alternative hours down for job two? You could tell them that you really want to accept, but would find it difficult to juggle the start and finish times with your childcare commitments. If you could do, say, 0930 to 1500 with only 30 minutes for lunch you'd only be losing an hour a day (and they'd save by reducing your pay pro rata, of course). And, depending how negotiations go, you could tell them you'vwe been offered another job with better hours.

Internetstalker, you do have a point but the second job will give me blocks of time with the kids as well. And I hadn't thought about the breakfast and afterschool club either. :o

Athos, I would imagine that loads of people will be going for this job, I'll be lucky to even get an interview I think. I don't think they will need to accept someone who wants to negotiate hours. :(

Job 2!! FTW!!

I'm in middle of applying to schools now too moomoo! 2 reasons being more money (I am on pretty low wage at mo and am just keeping head above water and it ain't so nice...) and SCHOOL HOLIDAYS! Ohgod the relief of knwoing I don't have to find childcare for weeks on end and be stuck in work when I'd rather be with minime :):)
And you're right I think....apply anyway. Got nothing to lose and you can decide for sure when you're offered it! Lots of luck!

Job 2 it is then moomoo....

You better get it now, we are all looking forward to you having the holidays off ;)

moomoo I used to be an IT trainer for learndirect teaching people how to use excel

I can teach you too you know :D

Oh, sorry - I though you'd already been ofered both jobs. But why not go for them both, and, if you get offered both you might be able to negotiate. You never know if you don't try.
