Me too :D

The best ones I remember were from a stall in a street in Amman and were with minty yoghurt. MMMMMMM

Roti? My usual Bradford kebab roll actually comes as two seekh kebabs in a naan :D

You can make a passable shawarma by whizzing left over lamb in a food processor with onion, garlic, allspice, salt, pepper, lemon juice. It's lush.

in Egypt i also luuurve fuul in a pitta too

(note to self - need a trip to the ME for street food)
Can I come? Ive honestly got the smells and tastes in my mouth now.

In Egypt I wasnt too enamoured with fuul, and I hated Koshari too. Until I made friends close enough to stay with, I lost serious weight everytime I went to Egypt.

Ta for the recipe too. When you say leftover lamb- you mean cooked lamb?
Im gonna form it over a skewer and griddle it. *kisses fingers* Mwah!

Shawarma still shouldn't be eaten with anything but tahini sauce ;) minty yogurt  :p

fuul and Koshari are lush - give them another go ;)

Feel a trip to Edgware Rd coming up (bit closer than the ME)

Roti.

If possible, I'd like that to be shrimp roti, which I've only ever had once in Port of Spain, bought from a rather insanitary looking roadside vendor. I thought I'd died and gone to foodie heaven.

.

Mmm shrimp roti. But I'm guessing that the shrimps were more West Indian shrimp - ie super sized king prawn, each the size of a small chicken thigh.

Bloody Northern pie-eating freak too. Not a bloody clue about the glory of roti up there - they're too busy thinking up 77 different names for a fucking bread roll. Honestly, it's like Eskimos and multiple names for snow.

;)

Wrap type things are too much bother for a klutz like me - I get stained
I like to eat off a plate with a knife and a fork.

Oh yes. PROPER shrimps :D

Honestly, it had to be the lushest thing I have ever eaten. I love my roti but that was sublime.

It's an unleavened flatbread basically, similar to a chapati. It can be a side dish, but it's probably more popular in the West Indies now - often as kind of portable food delivery system enclosing curry of some kind.

West Indian rotis tend to be a little softer and often feature chick peas or potato in the roti itself. It's pretty much the national dish in West Indian countries with significant indian/asian populations - particularly Trinidad and Guyana

Yes, where shall we go? :D How about shish kebab in the open air at night in Aswan? Or little spicy pizza thingies in the souk in Damascus

*getting seriously hungry now*

Actually I'm hoping to go tot Palestine later this year, so could maybe go via Jordan and go to *that* street in Amman while I'm at it.

Yeah, left over cooked lamb. I make it sometimes the Monday after a Sunday roast or stew :)

*rumbling stomach*

You wouldn't with a properly wrapped roti. Honestly, considering the amount of food (liquidy curry natch) the 'enveloping' skills of some of the roti makers are obscenely good. I haven't spilt a drop out of one of Trini's contraptions, and my keyboard is usually a resting place for crumbs and other food spillages.

Funnily enough I was in a cafe there on Monday night. Had a fantastic plate of kebab with grilled tomato and a whole grilled (unskinnned ) shallot plus some lovely chilli sauce and rice. Even had a ranting Nasrallah on TV in the background to provide atmosphere :D

*dashes to kitchen for instant food-ification*

I'm going to make roti tonight now. Good job I'm going home early.:D

I'm not too bad at 'em, ever since learning the trick of how to fill the dough with butter before flattening it out.

And while we're on the subject, can I mention dhal puri?
