Out of those two I think The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is the best. As much as i love Once Upon a Time in the West it doesn't entertain me as much.

Oh and I'd take Fidani over Ford. :p

I've absolutely no idea, can I just say which ones I enjoyed most?
  • Unforgiven
  • The Proposition (not strictly a Western, but..)
Also, El Jefe, what did you think of the latter? I bet you hated it. :D

Why do people link to IMDB? It's rubbish. Am I wrong?

I like to because a title alone might not ring a bell with people reading it. IMDB gives a nice overview of the film under discussion.

Would you prefer Rotten Tomatoes? Some other site?

You could just pretend they're not links. :)

Some of Eastwoods westerns are quite good imo.The Outlaw Josey Wales,High plains Drifter,Pale Rider.Robert Aldrichs Ulzana's Raid is another good un and also Walter Hills "The Long Riders"

I do prefer RT, yes, though it's gone a bit rubbish since the recent downgrade. Probably the best of all is just the Wikipedia page. All the info there, before your very eyes. I've always found IMDB a bit rubbish because all the info you typically need is scattered to the four winds. Wasn't having a pop at you, just wondering if anyone shares my dislike.

Is it terribly naff of me to like Unforgiven best?

Possibly but I'd agree with you. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, along with the prequels was great, but Unforgiven was the pinnacle of that whole era of Westerns, finished the story that the rest started.

I'd say Once Upon a Time in the West is definitely Leone's best western.

My favourite western of all is The Wild Bunch.

I don't like most westerns. They have to be dirty, messy and morally ambiguous for me to like them. Gunslingers are basically wankers, after all.

Not the greatest but well worth a watch is the gothic Johnny Guitar with Joan Crawford.

Louis MacNeice

p.s. out of two original choices it has to be TGTBATU for me; the whole battle for the bridge section is brilliant.
