Which is better - Aldi or Lidl?

Irrelevent story as to how Aldi got passed down to 2 brothers - they split it between the North (blue I think) and South (brown) of Germany. It's the brown Aldi in UK, but the blue here in Nederlands... That's not very interesting at all tho' :p :D

More Aldi trivia...

I'm reliably informed (by a member of the Aldi Fan Club) that there's an "Aldi Equator" through Germany, the shops are called "Temples" and the staff are "Servants of the temple". And there's a big debate about which way up and down the aisles you should go.

I am Brixton-ish Ms T, and I go to an Aldi on Old Kent Road, so not nearly as handy as Lidl.

Sod that for a game of soldiers -- there's no way I'm driving round the Elephant & Castle....

Have just picked up a telescopic tree branch cutter from LIDL

Guess what the price was

( hint its under a tenner and not by just a penny either) whereas the spear and jackson version is £25 in homebase....

They do have great fresh fruit and cheap stuff that you would have to pay a fortune for elsewhere (like lobster) but not everything is that cheap.

Try getting own brand in asda instead?

Which one do you prefer?

I'm launching myself on a economy drive, and therefore am going to try and do my shopping in a budget type shop.

I've been to Aldi once or twice, but is Lidl any better - i.e quality of food, prices, range, freshness etc?

they are both OK, netto is cheaper and better for the staples if you have one close bye.:)

They make it all back on the staplers though. £3.99 for a load of tacky plastic with a spring?!!!1!

I love both. The little tropical fruit juice cartons from Lidl are a fav of mine. They've got shed loads of camping gear going cheap at Aldi tomorrow including huge rucksacks for £15 odd!! Is it sad that I've booked a day off specially, as I do a couple of times a year, so I can go and nab all the bargains before the biddy bargain hunters get there?? :o

No its not sad its forward planning....

I went into Homebase and looked at the prices of things and got depressed and then later on went in to Lidl and suddenly I could afford the things I'd been looking at...... It was nice

Yeah true, whats the tacky plastic with the spring though?:)
The staplers - constantly jamming, which necessitates wrenching the staples out with a screwdriver. By which time the staples are all bent and knackered. Talk about shite modern engineering.
