Which is better? A PSP or a Nintendo DS?

Just thought I would chip in to say that Crisis Core is utter, utter dogshit.

I was leery about buying it to start with, as the rotten dialogue, turgid attempts at "new and improved" combat and increasingly absurd hair cuts that have plagued every FF game since VII seem to have become de-rigour for the franchise.

Still, the guy in the shop convinced me otherwise.

Bastard.

It is shit. Utter shit. REALLY REALLY SHIT!

Put it away :(

Nothing to do with dick size, just illustrating that the PSP is now a valid option. Others were interested, I can only apologise that you weren't.
:o sorry. I was only having a laugh.

On a more serious note, I've already played most of those games. ages ago, on a PS1. You're right to say that the PSP is more powerful, has a bigger screen and all that jazz but it doesn't have a touch screen, doesn't use 2 screens at the same time, doesn't have games where blowing on the microphone solves the puzzle... you get the idea... it just has playstation style games unless you're technically proficient enough to sort out emulators, homebrew etc etc. PSP has all the flashy lights but the DS actually has good, original games...

IMO obviously. ;)

Oh, I think you're right, but as with the Wii I think there's a lot more gimmick than anything of worth. Yes, it was very clever blowing out candles in Zelda (which I didn't rate), but did it add to the game? Not for me.

I dunno, I want to love the DS 'cos my wife bought it for me, but it just hasn't engaged me at all and I'm still waiting for a killer app other than Zelda.

For me, I enjoy the Playstation style games. I'm loving playing FFVII on the train in the morning - nice bit of escapism. I'd forgotten how funny it can be, actually. Just doing a spot of cross-dressing and have been advised to get a wig from the gym because 'that's where your sort normally hang out' - ha! :D

You'll be pleased to know that hidden on top of the wardrobe is a red DS and 4 games. :)

Nice one, what games did you get?

My mate has a couple of young girls and he buys some very odd games, like Pippa Funnell or the Imagine ones. They always get absolutely tanked in reviews but sell millions to little kids.

So for a tech-noob searching for a R4 for DD's NDS what do I type into my ebay search  And which is the best one to buy...

Worth the bother is it? What sort of homebrew stuff can you get then? I only use my R4 for piracy.

Yeah, I've only just started looking really but there's a list of stuff here that looks interesting.

I've downloaded a couple of games that are OK - a shoot em up called "tyrian" that's a port of an old PC game, a version of the classic "drugwars", somebody has coded a couple of those "choose your own adventure" books (here).

I've also got a couple of music videos playing on it too. Encoding them takes a while but it's not difficult.

MP3 files play without any trouble, just copy them onto the memory card.

I don't know why it's taken this long for me to start playing around with it...

Hello. :)

Just wanted to say that it's the little ones birthday today and he was very happy with his DS. So thanks for all your help and advice.

I didn't know it was rechargeable btw, I presumed it would run off batteries.

Excellent, glad to hear it, thanks for the feedback. :)

Sorry, one more question!

How long does the charge normally last for? Admittedly I've not charged it for long but it does seem to run down quickly. Should I leave it on charge overnight? And can you buy car chargers?

From the Nintendo website...
How long does the rechargeable battery last before it needs to be charged again?
The Nintendo DS Lite has four levels of brightness. The battery will last 15-19 hours on the lowest settings, and 5-8 hours on the brightest. This can also vary depending on the type of game activity.
Fun Fact: The Nintendo DS Lite's power light will change from green to red when the battery life is around 30%.
How long does it take to charge the battery?
The battery requires approximately three hours of charging. You will know when it is fully charged when the amber charging light shuts off. It is okay to continue to play the Nintendo DS Lite while it is charging, though the unit will take longer to charge.
Will I ever need to replace the rechargeable battery?
The battery will last for several years (or about 500 charges) before battery life starts dropping. If you experience problems with your battery

A car charger can be got from Amazon for under £2.50 delivered

Thank you Addy!

I think I'll go and read the manual and work out how to turn the brightness down then. :o :D

Turn it on, and when you get the DS menu with the game screen, the pictochat, and options sections, there will be a little sun in the bottom left corner. Press it, I think there's four different brightness settings.

Thank you. I found it. :)

One last question (actually, there will probably be more... :o) - how can I clean the screen? It's already got little sticky finger prints on it. Could I just use window stuff and a soft cloth like I do with the computer screen?

I wouldn't use any liquids. I use one of the cleaning cloths you get with glasses. Although the screen often looks filthy when it's turned on, you don't really notice it when the screen is lit up.

Before you buy any new games for it......sod your morals..etc..etc..
Get an R4 cart !!!! ;)

There is over 1800 game roms available on t'internets ;)

Oh, one thing - if he's a bit hard on the touch screen, buy a couple of protection sheets - it's like those transparent plasticky things are packed to protect glossy surfaces in electronics from scratches. The ones I've seen are re-usable, and don't affect the touch screen at all.
