Which is better? A PSP or a Nintendo DS?

Yeah, fair points. I too was an early adopter and sold it soon after. Couple of years down the line it's an entirely different prospect though. Fucking love my PSP now (had it about a month and the novelty still hasn't worn off, which is rare for me). Nearing the end of FFVII: Crisis Core then I'm going to replay the original FFVII (which looks fucking great on the PSP).

No fucking way is FFVII on it! I had about 300 hours on that on the psone. Is it an actual proper PSP version or a fanny-about-forever-hacking-your-PSP version?

Fanny about hacking your PSP I'm afraid. Your best bet is to find a local PSP hacker and get them to put custom firmware on your PSP (there's a website where people list their location and their PSP hacking services - it's considered rude to charge, so everyone does it for free). Once there, just download PSX isos and convert them, or download pre-converted roms and run them off your PSP. I think 90% of the psx back catalogue plays perfectly on the PSP.

So, in no order, I will be playing the following:

FFVII
FFVIII
FFIX
Vagrant Story
Grandia
The Resident Evils
Silent Hill
MGS
Gran Turismo
The Tekkens

in the near future and partying like it's 1998.

That said, they have released a FFVII game called Crisis Core and it's absolutely incredible. Captures the mood of the original perfectly and is a genuine joy to play. It's a little 'handhelded up' in places, battle system is action rather than menu driven, but still very FFVII. The story is as good as ever. It's set 7 years prior to the events in the original and explains a lot. There's so many beautiful touches, it really has transported me back.

If you loved FFVII I would heartily recommend you dust off the PSP and get it. Best thing I've played since FFVII.

I'm gonna get a PSP again. I'm playing FFIV and FFXII on the DS atm and they're just so good, best RPGs on the DS imo.

get him a library card instead.

Good call. Or a whip and top.

Yeah, I played the available FFs on the DS. I think they're the best JPRGs on any console to be honest. Still waiting for them to better the VII series. Although I am pretty unique in really enjoying FFIX n' all.

DS ftw!

Play value: far better range of games, better styles of gameplay, games not just crappy PS2 ports

Portability: it's small and has better battery life

Ease of obtaining games: heh get an R4 and you can download them all for free!

Most of the those statements aren't as clear cut when examined further.

I just got an 8GB mem stick for my PSP and have the following games on it:

FFVII: Crisis Core
FFVII
FFVIII
FFIX
Tekken (PSP version)
Wipeout Pure
Metal Gear Solid (PSP version)
Metal Gear Solid (PSX version)
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Resident Evil 1, 2 (PSX)
Zelda (all 3 N64 versions)
Gran Turismo (PSX)
Pro Evo 2008 (PSP)
Xenogears
Vagrant Story

I just don't think the 4 or 5 decent games on the DS can compete with that. Not to mention the superior sound, screen and the like.

I have both but tend to play on the DS more - but then I tend to prefer games of the 5+ rather than 18+ variety which the DS is suited for :o.

Mr. QofG's is currently playing FF:Crisis Core on the PSP which he tells me is brilliant. But then he would as he thinks he is Sir Auron from FF:X

I was really looking forward to Animal Crossing, but got bored of it really quickly :(

I've been playing it for about 6 months I think, I go through lulls where I'm not as interested, but then get really into it again. Usually when there's a new season of fish and insects to catch

The guy I work with in the store now constantly tempts me to buy a PSP after we installed a custom firmware on his. Took four days to figure everything out from scratch, and had to open his battery and cut one wire (the harder part - the rest was piss-easy once we actually read the instructions), and now can do a lot of stuff with his machine, including playing downloaded games.

Thing is, I love Exit. I almost feel tempted to buy one because of it.
