I think the whole country wants this lad to do well. Shame they're talking about him burning out before 2012 :(

Yeah, i feel really sorry for him. But still, he's 14 and going to the Olympics, it's incredible really.

yeah, build him up and slap him down.

Glad his group of people aren't piling the pressure on him. Seems to be the media that are expecting

tbh for his sake I hope he doesn't do that well. no medals anyway. can you imagine the media scrum if he wins something? horrendous, poor lad.

Yes, I think he's just happy to be there and we should be happy for him and not be expecting him to win medals and putting pressure on him

Some of the British boxing team should do well.

Looking forward to seeing Billy Joe Saunders in the boxing. In fact boxing is one of the few Olympic events I usually catch.

This year though it's all about the BMX, watched Shanaze Reade for years and looking forward to seeing her win Gold.

The cyclists as a whole, but specifically Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Vicky Pendleton and Shanaze Reade.

Boxing :Frankie Gavin - the lad from Brummieland who last year was Britain's first ever amateur World Boxing champ in the lightweight division. He's tipped to do very well in it. He's our best hope to getting a gold medal. I'm hoping that the other boxers will get a medal of some sort. David Price in the super heavweight division, James DeGale in the middleweight and the North East's Bradley Saunders in the light-welterweight.

Cycling : Chris Hoy, Mark Cavendish, Wiggins, Romero, Pendelton et al in the track cycling. Plus Shanaze Reade in the BMX event. It'll be interesting because the Aussies are frired up to challenge the British team, especially after the stunnig team performance in the World Champoinships at the Manchester Velodrome earlier this year. Is Nicole Cook (the Welsh lady) in the road cycling event?

Athletics - Kelly Southerton - with defending heptaphlon champion Carolina Kluft decing to concentrate on the long jump. This is Southerton's best chance of getting possibly the gold medal.

Phillips Odwu - With Chrisitan Olsson not defending the triple jump title due to injury. Odwu is the top rated jumper in the world. He's the clear favourite to win it. But can he handle the mantle/pressure of being the favourite?

Jo Pavey (10,000m) - 4th win the World Champs last year, but can she keep pace with the African runners. Paula Radcliffe after the heartbreak in the heat of Athens 2004 it looks like she's ready to compete for the marathon. Especially after injury i.e. a stress fracture to her left leg. It's a gamble to say the least, but i really hope she does well in the race.

Other events in athletics i.e. the 100m mens - Asafa Powell, Tyson Gay and Usain Bolt (in the 200m as well - his favourite event), 800m, 1500m & steeplechase.

Swimming - David Davies in the 1500m & 10,000m open course event, Liam Tancock (100m backstroke), Rebecca Adlington (400 & 800m freestyle) & Hannah Miley (200 & 400 Individual Medley)

The other sports i'll have a look at is the Badminton, with Gail Emms & Nathan Robertson in the mixed doubles. The Indonesian and of course the Chinese on their home patch will be tricky to beat. Tennis with most of the big names in the mens& ladies singles. Not forgetting of course the Murray bros in the mens doubles.

This. Yes she is

Athletics - Kelly Southerton - with defending heptaphlon champion Carolina Kluft decing to concentrate on the long jump. This is Southerton's best chance of getting possibly the gold medal.
Yeah i really want her to do well. She's does have some dodgy events though, she can't throw a javelin to save her life :(

Phillips Odwu - With Chrisitan Olsson not defending the triple jump title die to injury. Odwu is the top rated jumper in the world. He's the clear favourite to win it. But can he handle the mantle/pressure of being the favourite?
He needs to call me :o

But yes, i do wonder if he's got over the habit of crumbling under pressure. He should win.

I want Jo to do well too, she tries so hard. The scary thing is that there is nobody in Britain who can match her - i saw her in Birmingham (?) and she was nearly half a lap in front. Pretty worrying for the future tbh.

Swimming - David Davies in the 1500m & 10,000m open course event, Liam Tancock (100m backstroke), Rebecca Adlington (400 & 800m freestyle) & Hannah Miley (200 & 400 Individual Medley)
Rebecca and Hannah should do well, they were brilliant in Manchester. Liam Tancock should win. I'm looking out for Mark Foster too, gonna be his last Olympics but he is still one to beat.

Is Nicole Cook (the Welsh lady) in the road cycling event?

I think she is, not heard that she's been injured.

I'm really looking forward to all the cycling events. I hope Paula Radcliffe can stay fit in the marathon. Pretty much as much of everything that i can catch :D

The entire cycling team, it's a shame people still don't seem to appreciate just how good GB is at cycling these days

David Davis in the swimming, especially the 10k open water race.

The entire rowing team as well

That's just the GB&NI people, mostly I'm looking forward to all of it

Ben Ainsley. Mainly because I snogged him when I was 15 :o and also because he's a fucking god.

This reminds me that I owe baldrick another name.

I was just discussing this with Hubby. I said I didn't have a clue if any of our athletes were gonna do well or anything else. He says to me, " There's that guy who could do well in the swimming, and I'm sure we can get something in the....um....".

I have no idea who or what is going to the Olympics from my country, but it really doesn't matter.

It's the Olympics - the best of the best.

I can't wait!!!!!

Did anyone just watch Olympic Dreams? They showed Tom Daley doing a solo dive to qualify for the singles. It was brilliant. I said it had to be a perfect 10 and the scores came up - and it was :D

Athletics - Kelly Southerton - with defending heptaphlon champion Carolina Kluft decing to concentrate on the long jump. This is Southerton's best chance of getting possibly the gold medal.
I'm looking forward to watching Kelly Sutherton too - she is well fit.

I'm starting to wonder whether it's possible to discuss female athletes without resorting to 'phwoooar' type comments

i always enjoy watcihng the russian pole vaulter, whats her name? the one who does the clappy jump when she gets over the bar?
also, i always really enjoy watching the delectable jason gardener, did he qualify for anything?
there are a couple of women i saw lst year and was holding out hopes for but as usual, i cant remember their names.

She's been mentioned before on these boards, but the women's pole vault should be good.

you took the words right out of my mouth.

is there perhaps any british athletes, cyclists perhaps, who would be an equally good watch? purely in sporting terms?

tbh for his sake I hope he doesn't do that well. no medals anyway. can you imagine the media scrum if he wins something? horrendous, poor lad.

I reckon he will do fine, abe a medal, maybe not but he knows that
Diving, like many associated sports has a LONG shelf life, into his 30's
Hes only allowed 12 dives per day, its unlikely he will be allowed to burn out

IM looking forward to seeing him dive
Im also rooting for Claire Wright in the trampolining and all of the Gymnastics team

I cant say Im bothered about seeing anything else, I havent got the time

Jemma Lowe - 100 & 200 butterfly (because she's a local athlete/swimmer) E2A: her next appearance is Aug 11 2008 @ 10:24 (03:24BST) - Women's 100m Butterfly Final

Tyrone Edgar - 100 & 200m. he's not quite Dwain Chambers, but he's the best of our sprinters (imho)

Kelly Sotherton - Heptathlon. FTW!

Caroline Wozniacki - Danish tennis teen what likes her football too. My 40/1 pick.

Marta - Brazilian women's football team. Germany probably the best team she's got skillz.

Margherita Granbassi - Italian fencing lady.

And erm, bloke's football, rowing and hammer thowing.

ALL OF THEM! :D

Esp Michael Phelps going for 8 Gold.

Ive just seen Ian Thorpe looking like an overdone, sweaty hotdog carping at him. I know of all people he THhrpe has the right to carp, but damn its unedfying.
