you say that like it's a bad thing

:D

I spose the only thing I don;t like is the psy trance. Not enough flavour in it to interest me.

Every time anyone mentions new-school hardcore, metalcore, or e*o i feel like shooting myself in the head. No exaggeration.

getting back to techno, happy hardcore's pretty crap, though all that speedcore/terrorcore bollocks strikes me as unlistenable noise for people who wanna be ultra-dark and scary.

Mistakenly ended up at one of the first Vibealite raves in Bradford back in '96, all white gloves and Vicks and happy hardcore.

It was kids music then and it's kids music now.

Oh ffs, all you people getting your knickers in a twist over the word "hardcore" need to grow up. I fucking knew some smart arse would come on and deliberate the meaning of what a hardcore style of music was. Well, to me, hardcore just means FAST, LOUD, and also, a style which gets most of its airplay at raves and specialist internet radio stations.

Methinks you doth protesteth too much :p

I hate most of them but Breaks is the worst - samey, boring, uninspiring - at least happy hardcore isn't boring though it is annoying

You're obviously not listening to the right Breaks then.

I *ahem* used to buy a bit of happy hardcore back in about 94, but when the breakbeats went, so did I.

You can't beat the entire Naughty Naughty back catalogue though, Vibes, Wishdokta....some of it used to really rock.

All that Bonkers nonsense is bloody awful though.

I liked it when it first came out, but it got very very samey - it is extremely formulaic - those basslines get very tiresome after the second or third one.

I'm with Orang Utan, breaks is pretty shite, all that Plump DJ's type stuff is so generic, and funk less.

However I think people like Si Begg and Tipper make wicked breaks tracks, at least they arn't churning out the same old filter snare rush to nothing crescendo buildup nonsense, that 90% of breaks tunes seem to have.

Anyway don't want to get into drawn into a debate about it.

Am gutted, I've only just realised I could of voted on multiple genres....

Ah - you see, I don't tend to classify Begg and Tipper, cos they're good! :p

Is there a genre of dance music to which that statement couldn't be apllied to?

Especially by someone who's decided they don't like said genre.

The original hardcore was pre-Prodigy, there were releases on XL, Kickin' Records, it would have been around 1990 when 808 State released "Cubik" and this certainly brought the caustic sound to most of the masses for the first time.

It is and always was a London thing.

;)

Yeah, drum and bass nearly always has far more complex basslines, as does electro, skiffle music, trad jazz, etc. etc.

How come I danced to it Leeds and bought records there too?

Um, that depends on what brreaks you're listening to, and what drum and bass, electro etc . . .

There's a lot of breakbeat based music being made at the moment which is far from formulaic and tiresome . . .

Tis the only way to be about music I feel
It's quite simple
Good music - any music I like
Bad music - any music I don't like
Anyone who disagrees is a cunt with poor taste.
:p ;)
