Which famous musicians have been in your house?

i occasionally work with one of cymande. he hasn't been to my flat though, but that's cos i've never invited him (it's too small and messy for entertaining). and i see him all day at work (when he's in the country).

No-one at the current Maggot Mansions, but at my previous place most of the Alabama free had been round, and one of them stayed on the sofa for a few weeks. Also one of Urban Species and SunScreem.

We had some more famous visitors, but they weren't musicians so I'm not allowed to mention them.

I can also do you assorted members of silverfish, creaming jesus, terminal cheesecake and quite possibly some others that I've forgotten.

Brian Hibbard

yes, I'm *that* cool!

Grantley Marshall of Massive Attack, though at the time I just thought he was a mate's friend who was a bit nifty with the guitar. :o

Noel and Liam out of Oasis, not in my house as such, but my dad used to have to tell em to "get down off the fookin wall!!!" they were mates with me nextdoor neighbour

Oddly, my wife's saxophone teacher, who used to come round every Wednesday and give her lessons in the shed, was up for the Mercury prize this year. He didn't win, though.

Had Pete de Freitas of Echo & the Bunnymen stay over at my old student house in Cambridge (he knew one of my flatmates).

I'm meeting with a friend tomorrow night who had U2 :D stay on her floor before they were famous. I'll ask if she has any stories worth re-telling.

He turned up at a party we were having once and I caught him looking through our cupboards for booze. Cheapskate twat.

Oh yeah, and a bunch of Canadian musicians. I always forget about them. Skinny Puppy, the Payolas, 54/40, etc. Most of the people involved with Nettwerk Records in the earlier days.

A guy who played guitar in Iron Maiden (but they weren't very famous then) used to often fall asleep on my sofa when I lived in Upper Clapton many a year ago. I was friends with his sister anfdtheir garden backed onto mine. think he was called Adrian.:D

I had a lodger who was in the music business and he was always getting phone calls from Limahl ( Kajagoogoo) which used to interfere with my sleep (pre moby days)

none. Bez has been to my mates house when i was there, and I have been to Pete Doherty's old house, which was in Mount Pleasant.

Steve Ellis came round and left with two kittens. He was in a one hit wonder group. Something....Love Affair comes to mind.

Sonny Boy Williamson #2 (Rice Miller) stayed at a friends house and I went round a few times. ultra

Someone v cool female and famous I can't mention ;)

Richard and Fred Fairbrass (Right Said Fred)
I used to manage them:o

The keyboard player in The Tubes

The drummer from Vic Damon's big band.
Vic Damon was a 'crooner' in the Sinatra/Tony Bennett mould

And no doubt others who came round for a spliff after a gig :D

We were neighbours with Daniel Lanois in Hamilton, Ontario in the late seventies/early eighties. His girlfriend at the time was a waitress in our restaurant and we often catered for the crew at Grant Avenue Studio. One memorable after-hours party we had around the time they were collaborating on a musical sequence for David Lynch's Dune, Dan brought along Brian Eno and his brother Roger.

the forklift driver from my works went to the shop one saturday night, when he got back home there was a party going on and ziggy marley was there with some gorgeous women. i wish i had his life.

James Yorkston. If we can count the house I grew up in, then Martin Carthy, Norma Waterson, June Tabor, Martin Simpson, Andrew Cronshaw.

Ha ha...this has spawned threads in the mupp forum.
Brendan Shine? :D
That reminds me that my mum was so impressed when Gene Stuart (of the Mighty Avons, no less) hand-delivered some records to our house once cos it was I'd been in his store so many times asking when stuff I'd ordered was going to arrive. Oh the record shop wars of Dungannon circa 1979.

My old house was the occasional crash pad for Jonny Thunders when he was touring (but before I lived there) . Other visitors included Dave Gedge, Wayne Hussey and Charlie Chuck/Uncle Peter (its quite strange to find him standing on your doorstep first thing in the morning) .

My present abode can only boast a visit from a member of chumbawumba and the bloke who played lomper in the Full Monty.

Eliza Carthy was at my brother's old house during the Cambridge Folk Festival one year, which was  , but that's nothing especially surprising as loads of folkie musos generally used to hang out there especially during Folk Festival week. He used to share that house with Martin Green who used to play accordion with and tour with Joan Baez a few years back. The Eliza Carthy year, they couldn't persude Joan to come down for a session from her hotel though :(

My own old flat? No-one remotely famous, EVER!**

**Urbanz aside :D
