i live near 'curry mile' in rusholme in manchester and most of the restaurants there are shit, too. the best places i've found are the Nawaab in levenshulme or the Bangla Villa in failsworth. both proper top notch places.

Its got to be Dhansak.

Traditionally lamb but my fav. is the chicken. Mmm, lentils, hot and sour...delicious. :D

The most tasty I had was when I ate with a with a local family when I was in the Western Ghats in India but it had no name and the women in the family were the only ones that knew it! Veggie and VERY hot which made a change from most of the food I ate which was pretty bland.

Chicken jalfrezi is usually my favourite.

If anyone is within delivery distance of the Shelina in Crystal Palace, their chicken marinated in paneer (Indian cheese) is curry heaven.

May Kasahara, that name sounds like a curry to me, well a spicy dish of some description anyway.

I'd eat two plates full ;)

Do you live anywhere near Easton? The Kashmir on the High Street does the best chicken dansak ever.

Favourite has to be chick peas and loads of chili, so usually chana masala on the few occasions I don't feel like trying something new.

Biriyani is nice but only when its done well, e.g. not at a crap take away or a whetherspoons.

I quite like Lamb Rogan Josh, or Malaysian Beef Rendang, which err isn't Indian if that makes a difference.

Bolton is aswash with Rice 'n Three cafes:cool:

There is a curry place in Bolton that is straight out of Peter Kay.

I once saw a tracksuited family go in there, and all of them order the chicken/steak and chips, because they didn't want any of that foreign muck.

And they have been one of the more normal groups in there.

I've been reading up on Indian food since this thread. Turns out that chiken tikka was invented in England, and as the author said, it's become so popular that they even make it in India now.:D
