Mini-LP to me, although I find it hard to decide whether these count in totals of acts' albums, which makes calculating The Fall's quota highly frustrating.
And then there's the quandry concerning what qualifies as a mini-LP and what qualifies as a full-length LP. I believe that 'Come On Pilgrim' and 'Slates' by The Fall - both de facto minis - have longer running times than 'Pink Moon' by Nick Drake, which was always considered a bona fide full-length album.
Anyway, IMO Pixies' second album was 'Surfer Rosa' and 'Doolittle' the third. And I was there and bought them on vinyl first time round in 1988/9 etc. etc. etc. blahblahblah...
It's pretentious arteestes, artfully knobbing around with playing speeds (a la "we're releasing our new album on three sides that play at 45rpm and two that play at 78 for better sound quality and greater prestige within the art rock firmament) that have confused everything.
