which adverts make you cringe or wet your pants?

I wonder what you can get away with by putting a "we're lying to you in this advert" disclaimer in 3pt font at the bottom of the screen...?

What really gets me is that I know people who'll see these cosmetic adverts, go "Oh, she's wearing fake XYZ! Epoch lulls!" but then happily go out and buy the product anyway "because it makes my XYZ look good"...!

Just more proof that no publicity is bad publicity I guess.

in most cosmetic ads teh results are falsified, fake eyelashes etc

you dont need to put 'we're lying' in it. l'oreal can say "brand new face cream, now includes Nutrillium pro-retinol special compound xyz" etc..because all that scientific sounding bollocks is just a trademark they've made up. none of its real.

but dont trust me. i'm ad man, jr.

seriously though, the entire industry is corrupted to fuck. its all about squeezing every last penny from people and creating false demand.

apple being a perfect example of this- look at the iPhone. creating your own hype and false demand for what is effectively a pretty third rate product.

you can put any old shit in a posh box and double the price. people WILL ALWAYS buy it. supermarket 'finest' ranges are another good example.

e2a: still i shouldnt really moan...never bite the hand that feeds you and all that...

All those constipation ads that feature women dancing through falling leaves etc to represent bowel relief.

I love the one with the catchphrase 'pass it on', fucking brilliant bit of punning...

The vagisil adds etc make me wince - I mean why not call it soothing cream or cool cream. Same thing with anusol, I mean it's terrible marketing - who could bring themselves to bring a tube to the pharmacy counter?

i find the phrasing of some of those voice overs quite interesting, for example they say " the worlds first face cream containg a shitload of oygen from nivea" so its not as the ad implies that nivea are ground breaking by making this product (similar products have been on the market for at least a year), its just that this is the first cream with a shitload of oxygen that nivea have made

equally annoying are those ads they are pretending not to do any manipulating

The MoneySupermarket ad featuring the animated cheerleaders with the mega inflated boobies- weird science stylee. The cheering is Rahhhhhhhhhh making.

The BT Broadband ads with Kris Marshall fuckin shite

I hate them, but they are genius bits of advertising. They make me cringe but communicate so much about the product in such a short space of time.

*waits for soze

I hate the one that uses graphics lifted from the matrix about car insurance where the bloke wants to go to Barcelona.

And I noticed in a Monster sdvert some shitty stock footage of nondescript American office workers in nowheres ville with a voice over of a man saying 'I work because I love it' TWAT

Most cringeworthy: Merc C class "I'll see your idea and raise it" no no no no no no no no, you didn't really say that did you? Also what a shit car, so painfully obviously derivative of the LS200 it's humiliating.

Most annoying: confused dot fucking com, fuck off, please, now

Favourite: Nicole being a bit thick on a Nintendo DS :o
