I don't - its pretty nice though, smarter than the valleys certainly, more of a market town. Its got a bit of a foodie reputation, and its good for the mountains. More oriented towards Newport, Chepstow, etc than Swansea.

But I'm no expert, just know its pretty nice. Compared to Merthyr, like.:p

But that's a bit of a generalisation - there are some lovely spots in Newport. It's only 20 minutes from Cardiff with good public transport links, and it is a hell of a lot cheaper to live there.

Its 'lovelier' going west of cardiff or north than it is in Newport.
Caerphilly, Taffs well, Tongwynlais, beddau, area round llantrisant all have that and are pretty attractive compared to newport

I went to school in Beddau. It's a shit hole. Don't move there.
You're right about the other places, though.

looks like i'll be going looking in the early part of next week.. i've been offered an easy tenancy in tonerefail (sp?)... anybody know much about that place?

ta for all ur help urbs x

Really? My mate reckoned it was nice, Ive only driven through it, the bits which are more countrysidey look lovely.
The surrounding countryside is quite nice, but the actual town is a shitty place. And living nowhere there could you say you were living in the country apart from maybe the very outskirts. It's bottom of my list of places to live in S Wales. Fuck, I'd rather live in Maerdy.

Ive got a mate who bought a house near Tonyrefail earlier this year and is very happy, its in one of the villages close by

:) I'd move to abergavenny if i went back to south wales - I think its more communityish - nice feel to the place:cool: bit laid back yet busy.

Little quaint pubs - beautiful big mountains (with lots of shrooms) nice River (is it the River Usk) nice shops
Usk just down the road, Canals.

Different little towns dotted about around the countryside
Train station - i think the buses go to cardiff via newport (maybe)
Big road direct to Newport or Cardiff

Yeah I like Abergavenny
Griffistown a few miles away is nice too - quietish, cheap, nice pub on canal bus and trains direct to cardiff - i grew up there. mountains aswell

I know of someone who is desperate to move from Blaenavon to Abergavenny. is it easier to reach places from Abergavenny by public transport? Shes got an assistance dog and is feeling quite isolated

:) imo I would think so, iicrc i used to live in blaenavon, its quite bleak:( too quiet too many hills to climb, windy and cold, crap bus service, very cliquey

so i would say yes, aber is much better - its a busy market town with abit of character, as opposed to a desolate ignorant windswept grey miserable estate on the side of a old slag heap (I was a junkie at the time so maybe thats just my victim mode kicking in!:D )
Our car would really struggle getting up there. i spect there is nice parts tho.

I think abergavenny is alot flatter with mountains around it.
I dunno what the council estates are like mind.
:)

Apologies to any peeps who love blaenavon)

i've done my time living RIGHT in the countryside.. i wanna be somewhere with access to countryside but as near as possible to city life as i can afford lol.. thanks again everyone.. am still looking! :)

jeez this house hunting lark is a right pain in the arse lol.. SO many of them don't take dogs or smokers .. that kinda buggars me right up lol

still looking and tips still welcome :)
