laos is a nice country ive been there twice...ive not been to vietnam but lots of people told me that there is hassling/some rip offs going on there well esp. compared with laos..
laos is a very relaxed place..doesnt have the population density vietnam has..i would recommend the thousand islands area(southern part near cambodia)for cycle touring..you would need to bring yr bikes with you..only "flying piegons" are rented out there.
as far as india goes ladkh(not sure if i spelled it correctly) but in the extreme north is a summer destination,snowed in much of the rest of the time..fantastic music and culture,very busddhist/tibetan area..very mountainous so maybe too difficult for cycling long distances..but you are both fit so if you want a challenge..enjoy!
