Where is the best view in London?

Can anyone advise if the reservoir currently accessible?
It is not, no. The new fence they put up is fearsome, and there are cameras along it, so trying to cut it will usually bring security guards.

A group called Friends of Nunhead Reservoir is in a process with Thames Water to try to get regular opening times. At the moment there's one open day coming up on 21st May - check the fb group for details Friends of Nunhead Reservoir public group | Facebook

Sadly the days of sneaking in late at night are probably over for good.

great news on the nunhead reservoir campaign - very promising
.........
The 38 degrees petition brought lots of articles from local press (South London Press , Southwark News, Peckham Peculiar) in Time Out, The Guardian, coverage on BBC London news, and the broad support of local politicians. This led to us being contacted by Thames Water directly, in order to negotiate.

In this first meeting with them, they proposed we have a kind of 'meet n greet' at the reservoir, so that people who are keen for it to be opened up (they limited numbers to 30 people) could meet the people who work there, and both sides could share their concerns and wishes. This went ahead, and many questions were asked.

They seem to actually be keen on opening it, in some form, and even invited along the Chief Exec of the London Wildlife Trust, who are interested to know more about the site and its wildlife potential.

We are feeling positive that these meetings and 'open days' are the first steps towards opening the site to the public!! :)

Thames Water are VERY concerned about security. The issue is that without a lease and insurance under a separate organisation (for example like the Aquarius Golf course have) they are under so much pressure to make sure nothing happens to the water supply.

We still maintain that there must be a compromise which would enable us to have access as well as keeping the hatches secure so they can rest easy. They are keen to build up some trust between Thames Water and the Friends of Nunhead Reservoir group (join us on facebook!) , and for this to happen we are having a series of open days.

This invitation is for the next step in our open days series as part of our negotiations with Thames Water.
We will have a stall at the Nunhead Cemetery Open Day, Sat 21st May, and Thames Water staff will be leading people to the reservoir to show people around and answer questions. It would be great to see lots of you there to show Thames Water how much we want it back!

The tours will be at various points during the day (11-5) and people can sign up for them at the stall, which is where they will start from.

The Cemetery Open day is always a great day out: 'Music in ruined chapel, stalls, birds of prey, bodger, Horse drawn vintage hearse, morris dancers, bug hunt, legendary plant stall, home made refreshments and much more TBC www.fonc.org.uk'

Those Croydon tower blocks really get in the way. Have cycled around there and some great views across rolling countryside the other way too, round Woldingham and Warlingham.

Blythe Hill Fields is hard to beat as it's pretty 360-degree, across London but also south to Kent. As this picture fails to demonstrate.

I read online it’s possible to see the sun set over the horizon twice if you run fast enough around the top. But I’m not entirely sure what that means

Would have been my local park had I moved to London

You've lost me there... But probably.
Honor Oak Park is quite nice now round the station and you've got One Tree Hill the other way, which is another good view and walk.

is there a legitimate way up there now? i know it was a ski-slope at one time

i remember it when it was just the shit tip from beckton gas works - it would be a bit of an exaggeration to say it glowed in the dark, but it was certainly some funny colours in places...
No.
To my knowledge, it has not been cleaned up. Admittedly, we went a while back, we got in through a hole in the fence 😉
