Where is the best view in London?

Yes, I do that journey a lot (especially since the Victoria Line is so often out of order between Brixton and Victoria)

Trust Wordsworth to stand on the wrong bridge - should have gone to Vauxhall:

Composed Upon Westminster Bridge, September 3, 1802

Earth has not anything to show more fair:
Dull would he be of soul who could pass by
A sight so touching in its majesty:

Yeah, that is a nice one.

Haven't read this thread as interweb is creaky and spect someone has said it though King Henry VIII's Mound in Richmond park looking through to St Pauls and back across over the river, race course etc is a personal fav...

Clearly the view from Parliament hill... Anyone who thinks otherwise frankly a wrongun', and I knew there were a fuckload here - but this is far too many by half...

Saw that the other day. Utterly over-rated. Being green & close to the centre of town doesn't make it a good view.

BUMP

My other favourite view of London was from Nunhead Reservoir - a massive covered reservoir next to Nunhead cemetry. It was a bit of a secret one as to get in you had to go up a path and then through a small hole in a fence, but lots of people knew about it and the view was unbeatable.
Then last year Thames Water went mad with extra fencing and now its completely off limits.

However there is a new petition to try and get it opened up. I know there are more important things happening in the world but please sign it! Open Nunhead Reservoir | Campaigns by You

TO: THAMES WATER
We want Thames Water to open Nunhead Reservoir to the public, so that everybody can enjoy the view and the open space. They can use some of the profit they make from their bill payers to supply bins and official entrances. Replant the trees they dug up and take down the ugly fence around the perimeter.

Why is this important?
Nunhead Reservoir has one of the best views in South London. It has been a much loved picnicking spot, place to relax and hang out with friends for many years, and deserves to be officially opened so that everybody can enjoy it. London is being sold off piece by piece to private owners for private interests, let's not let them take this much loved green space along with it.

I wanted to post about it first time around but it was a place you had to keep a bit secret, exactly because if too many people went Thames would stop it.... to a certain extent it became a victim of its own success as word got around...

I don't know London very well but last time I was there in October I saw it from Crystal Palace, Greenwich Observatory and from the river at night. All different, all great.
