Where is the best view in London?

The revolving bar on the 30th floor of my office block in Earls Court offers a bloody good view of the entire city; you can easily follow the path of the Thames, using the many bridges as landmarks or watch planes land at Heathrow.

My 3rd story East Dulwich living room affords a fantastic view looking North; at night the city twinkles away , from St Pauls to Canary Wharf and I think to myself
PLEASE TURN OFF THE FUCKING THOUSANDS OF LIGHTS YOU WASTEFUL BASTARDS.

Right in the middle of Waterloo Bridge.

Defintiely the best bridge view and Londoners fav view in a poll im sure

Greenwich Obervatory usually gets lots of votes too - nice unineterupted rolling view down into the Thames Valley.

My personal favourite is from Bylthe Hill Fields:

An oasis of green with a great 360degree panorama with north and east london ahead of you and kent behind you...

by some twist of fate all views are very green, with all the parks and green spots lining up to make one big green carpet (almost!)

No lamposts means its a very peaceful place to hang out in at night - plus you can play on the kilds death slide in the dark!

Waiting in a stack the come into Heathrow on a clear day.

The birds-eye tour of London is completely breathtaking - almost brought a tear to my eye last time.

Is worth every bit of CO2 you're chucking into the the atmosphere ;)

The platform ends at King's Cross, as seen from the window of a northbound train. :D

Greenwich has some good views, though. The view from the Royal Observatory is mighty impressive, for a start.

This looks like a good one.

For some reason I often prefer a gently sloping view down towards the city, as this one is, to a bird's eye view from the top of an office block where everything in the vicinity of the block looks "squashed down" because of the height. "Spectacular" doesn't always translate into actual visual appeal, though it sometimes does.

BT tower is good, as is london eye, but for non-fake non man-made views, i always turn to that spot in hampstead heath :)

Some of the views looking out over Greenwich from Vanbrugh Park Road near the observatory are nice, a bit obscured but I think better than the views from the observatory

As others have said, BT Tower is pretty spectacular. I used to get to go to meetings there quite regularly, and they always gave us lunch in the revolving restaurant.

And also a mention for the view from the balcony of my 12th floor flat in Lewisham. You can see the BT Tower from there, and vice versa, so it only stands to reason that the view must be as good, if not better. ;)

Depends which you are driving ;)

perhaps I should clarify: the rear-view mirror....

To be serious, when I lived in London two views I found fascinating: London as seen from the hill by Greenwich Observatory, & Docklands by night (I lived in a tower block with a wonderful view). With a leap of the imagination, you could even momentarily imagine you were living in a vibrant interesting City. It wasn't, for me...

You have the better view.

You can't see where you live. :p

The view from the Angel pub in Rotherhithe whilst sitting facing the river with a pint in your hand..

When I have a free afternoon I often cycle along the river to have a pint and to enjoy the view at that pub. London feels so quiet and peaceful there. :)
