Hmm ok I hope I can remember them all:

Europe:
All of UK (resident until I was old enough to do a runner, then 90-91 in N Ireland)
France (work and holiday on various occasions)
Germany (resident 85-90 and 92-2007)
Netherlands (live here now)
Belgium (occasional trips for the beer)
Spain (incl. Canary Islands) (holidays)
Austria (holidays and work)
Switzerland (holidays and visiting friends)
Norway (holidays)
Sweden (work)
Denmark (holidays)
Italy (Incl Sardinia) (holidays and work on various occasions)
Malta (visiting relatives)
Cyprus (passing through)
Slovakia (work)
Poland (Polish ex-girlfriend, family visits)
Russia (work)

Elsewhere :

USA (holidays and work)
Canada (walked over at Niagara for a cup of coffee and a stamp in my passport)
Japan (work)
Jordan (work)
Kuwait (dodging Scuds)
Iraq (getting shot at)

Think that's everything, never had any really bad experiences anywhere (incl Iraq) TBH, I enjoy noticing the differences

Planned for the near future:

Bulgaria
China
India

Lived and worked (two months or more): Turkey, Peru, Philippines, Indonesia, Spain, Colombia, South Africa, UK, Thailand.

Visited: Nigeria, Barbados, Russia, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, USA, Brazil, Denmark, Mexico, Ireland.

NVP I'm so envious of you having been to Kashmir. That's one of my places to see before I die...

I think I went when it was last safe-ish. I doubt I'd go now. I didn't tell anyone I was British - pretended to be from NZ - and it was fine. hard work hassle-wise but stunningly beautiful. That Emperor Jahangir fella was right about it being paradise, though. Staying on a houseboat on Dal Lake is something else, it really is.

I thought i'd present mine alphabetically

Australia, Austria
Bahrain, Belgium, Burma
Canada, Cambodia
Dubai
England,
France
Germany
Hong Kong
Indonesia, Isle of Man
J
Kenya, Kuwait
Libya
Malaysia, Majorca
Nepal, Netherlands
O
P
Qatar
Russia
Spain, Singapore, Sudan, Sharjah
Thailand
USA
V
Wales
Y
Z

So, since I live in Thailand, it won’t be too difficult to complete the alphabet: Japan, Oman, Philippines, Vietnam, Yemen, and Zambia will do it nicely.

But I’d really really like to get to Jamaica for my J, in which case I would add to the C list with Cuba at the same time.

Favourite three are Thailand (so accordingly that's where i live), Kenya, and Australia, but the latter only just pushes Spain out of bronze medal.

Bloody hell. Looking at some of those answers it makes me look like I have never managed to get out of my back garden.

(Except to shag DC's mum)

So far as I am aware I have never been in your back garden. If that makes you feel any better.

That's what I've heard.

I wouldn't go unless it was safe, of course.

Good idea. Let me try the alphabet game:

Argentina, Austria
Brazil, Bermuda, Bolivia, Bosnia, Belgium
Cuba, Cambodia, Colombia, Czechoslovakia, Croatia, Canada
Dominican Republic
Ecuador, England
France
Ghana, Guatemala, Germany
Haiti, Hungary
Iceland, India, Ireland
Japan, Jamaica
K
L
Mexico, Morocco, Montenegro
Netherlands
O
Peru, Puerto Rico, Portugal
Q
Romania
South Africa, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Switzerland, Scotland
Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, Thailand
Uruguay, United States
Venezuela
West Germany, Wales
X
Yugoslavia
Z

So Kazakstan, Liberia, Oman, Qatar and Zambia to go. The X is likely to prove a bugger though.

Yes, a real problem, perhaps only solved by going somewhere in china perhaps?

I still think you should make it to kenya, which would solve the K problem. Malindi on the coast is one of my top five towns anywhere i've been. Could happily live there.

And if i might ask, what has been the driving force for visiting so many countries?!

Just curiosity really. And I suppose having a job with long holidays and no kids until four months from now. How about you?

I'd love to go to Kenya, I thought I'd try Mombasa, then Zanzibar (thus taking care of K and Z in one go). It'll have to be next year though, I've already lined up India, Japan and Israel for the rest of 2009.

Well, thinking about it, perhaps i might have managed more countries, but when i went travelling i started in thailand. And basically finished there because i simply didn't want to leave. So i stayed. And my 18th birthday here is later this year, so perhaps i might have travelled more if i'd not come to thailand. But there again it's led me to many of the countries around here. But trouble is, when i get holidays (and i make sure that happens frequently) i normally just get pulled this way or that in thailand. Too good!

Now i've lost my single status, so it's not quite so cheap or easy to hop anywhere in the world, plus i'm in a cracking place to be living now, so my travel shoes have quietened down.

But your list remains impressive!

But your list remains impressive!

Cheers, so's yours.

I'd have got more in too, if it weren't for repetition. I've been to Mexico about 50 times (I live near the border), Turkey about 20 times (the wife's from Istanbul), Amsterdam about 20 times, Jamaica twice, Brazil twice (going back again in a couple of weeks), India twice etc.

At this rate I'll never get to every country in the world, which was once an ambition of mine. Also they keep making new ones.
