Where do you hear about new music?

Usually its my mates but as what "rings my bell" sways i'm finding here is a brilliant place :)

Well done Urban, have a noddy badge

These days, at my ripe old age (42), it's less radio and more festivals and the odd blog, which lead to my trying various compilations and following up from there. Have discovered Loyko, Pronghorn, the Peatbogs, Boban Markovic and all sorts that way. I quite like Phil Meadley's blog, selected bits of Discorgy and Bluesmen's World Music blog at the mo'. Compilations like Balkan Beats and most stuff from Eastblok and Asphalt Tango records tickle my wossname too.

I've got to say, without the internet I'd be a bit fucked. That's the beauty of p2p downloads; you hear about something that sounds interesting and can easily download a couple of tracks to see if you do like it.

i dunno, i usually do pretty well. This month's issue had a primer on the odder end of kosmische music, really obscure early 70s stuff, and I found all but one of the albums that appealed...

And made me dig out the 'Noise made by people' by Broadcast which is a great lost album.

...but when I'm stuck at work I just follow people's myspace friends.

That's a good way and also running a similar artists playlist on last.fm but for really new unreleased stuff myspace is still the best but it takes a lot of time and effort.

I also keep a look out for new signings from various labels like Merge, In The Red, Jagjaguwar, Dead Oceans, Asthmatic Kitty etc

Blogs, Magazines, mooching about on the net, music forums.

The best new bands I hear off are usually recommendations from other bands rather than journos, bloggers, industry types. That's why i think myspace still works. If you really like a band check out their top friends. In among the strippers from cali there's usually one or to pearls.

Yeah..I class that under mooching about on the net. It's quite a nice way to spend a couple of hours following myspace links and listening to bands.

I enjoy trawling through blogs as well and just picking stuff because of the cover, about as close to standing in a record shop like the old days as I can get these days.
