where do you go in london - habit wise

hardly ever stray outside of South London these days..
Do most of my shopping in Deptford, and I go to the leisure centre there.
I go to the cinema in Peckham sometimes, and the rest of the time I go walking the dog round Canada Water, Southwark Park and other parts of Bermonsdey.

Drinking after work: Shoreditch/Old Street (much as I can't stand it)
Quick pint after getting home: Lewisham
Wander out on a sunny afternoon: Greenwich
Cinema: Greenwich
Meeting the mrs from work: New Cross

Everyone seems to stay put quite a bit, don't they? That's quite odd really, although I do it too.

Luckily I've moved 4 times since I've been here so I've stayed put in 4 different areas of London. :D

Live in Islington, work in Southwark, Drink in Essex Road, Angel, Old St with the odd visit to Stoke Newington and Dalston thrown in. Hamsters Heath, Finsbury Park or Highbury Fields for fresh air.

We hardly ever go on nights out South of the River any more even though we get tempted by good looking nights, we're just too lazy to get the night bus home.

I lived in three different areas so got to see a bit of London - never lived in west London though so it's a total blank in my mind

The thing with London is it's just too big to go trekking from one side to the other, especially negotiating pubic transport.

I work in North Acton. I wouldn't dream of spending a minute longer in the area than I had to.[/QUOTE]

Strangely enough that's one place I do visit for weekend entertainment from time to time ;) :D

well, generally i don't leave the confines of brixton, but given that a lot of my friends are east i'll often find myself there. i work in streatham but don't tend to hang around there. i'll go to gigs all across london though.

Streatham and Wandsworth are where I spend most of my time.. Brixton and West Croydon will usually be my 'socialising'. Putney sometimes. Usually go to Bloomsbury/Bermondsey/Mile End on the weekends to visit friends. So I don't really stay put, I suppose...

know it, quite a small boozer really, was run by the same bloke for about 50 years until a few years back, I live about 15 minutes walk from there, the princess of wales is about 10 minutes walk along the canal from there, larger pub (a youngs pub for ale fans) more of an outside area
A sometimes extraordinary place. Known as the 'little house' by some locals. Unfortunately the governor Les (MBE no less) died a little while back, but the pub has lost little of it's (ahem) charm.

Edited to make it clear I'm on about the H & A, not the Princess of Wales.

I totally disagree! :)

I am new to Ldn (14 months) and have lived in the East, South and West. I'm now in E5. I am still goggly-eyed about how easy it is to get around. Easpecially compared to the one-bus-an-hour place in Sussex I'm from.

As I've moved around a lot I tend to go to mates manors to go out - and that's beacuse they are less keen to leave their manors as they have forgotten to vast bounty of Ldn transport and got lazy.

I stay in N17, mostly. I cycle toTottenham High Road to shop about once a week and go to the retail park in Tottenham Hale for Lidl. If we go to the pub, we go to the Ferry Boat near Tottenham Lock. I rarely go into the West End, it's horrific.

Work in Clerkenwell, live in Wimbledon but otherwise don't have much to do with the place.

Tend to gravitate toward Camden (habits of yoof, what can you say, plus being a native North Londoner) and Soho, because it's the middle, basically.

Most well worn routes are:

  • Local SE23 parks bars cafes for local stuff
  • Brixton, Crystal Palace and New Cross for socialising
  • Soho for a Beach Burrito (the best MexCal food in Europe! well worth the hour round trip just for a bite! http://www.nickster.com/mexilondon/list.htm)
  • Shoreditch for some Vietnamese food on a Sunday
  • Aylesbury Estate and Kings Cross for work - sometimes hit chapel market for an Indian Veg
  • Ocassionaly hit Southbank for some faffing
  • Ocasional mission up to Finsbury Park or Barnet to see old pals.
  • Peckham for market - lewisham for cheap Sri Lankan food

Youre right about that - Londoners gettoo lazy and reluctant to move about.

I used to bop all over london and surroudnign counties, for work and play, getting a bit more routine these days...

i think the key factor there is that you are relatively new to london

Well I've been here since 98 (East London first, then West) and also think it's easy to get from one side of London to the other. Can be time consuming, I suppose, but I'm used to 40 minutes on the Pic Line to get into Covent Garden. Having said that, I spent all my formative years travelling half an hour from home to get into Bristol, so spending time on a bus or whatever is no big deal.

I think it is laziness on the part of a lot of people.

As for where do I go in London.. I go all over the place. Always open to suggestions :)

In the last six months, I’ve travelled extensively around London.

Live in Stockwell, and get to Clapham, the Junction, Brixton, Kennington Park, Streatham, Waterloo, along the Embankment from Vauxhall to Shad Thames – its one of the few stretches of London ‘streets’ I can push a wheelchair with some ease.

I spend a lot of time between Holborn, Bloomsbury, Euston and Clerkenwell; as well as in Islington and Hackney. I travel to Acton and Brent occasionally; and, enjoy the ‘delights’ of Camden Town and Hampstead, half-a-dozen times a year. Whenever I can, I get to Soho and Covent Garden.

I live in Charlton and work in Greenwich, and don't often need to go far out of Greenwich borough. I do my shopping largely in Woolwich, 'cos the market is good and cheap and a lot of my socialising and ambling around in Greenwich. Come the summer I'll be avoiding central Greenwich when I can, though: it's way too jammed with camera-clicking tourists and you can't get a seat in the pub. I'll be hanging about in Blackheath instead: the pubs are nearly as nice and it's not as crowded.

I don't often go into central London, with the exception of the odd lecture, night out or visit to the British Library.

I do go to Kew for the National Archives on a regular basis, but I rarely see much of the place except for the familiar walk between station and archives.

brixton is where i live & socialise a lot.
old street/shoreditch is where i always seem to work (for the past eight years on & off). also do a lot of socialising round here (and have done for years). either after work, or herbal/fabric type places, or meeting old colleagues, etc. islington for dinner/drinks sometimes, with various different groups of friends, colleagues, ex colleagues.
london bridge sometimes too. (just cos i love it there).
west end for meeting friends/cinema, etc.

i think brixton & old street/shoreditch/angel, are my main socialising areas now.

I think I saw you around old street a few weeks back. You looked rather deep in thought just up the stairs at exit 1/2.

shoreditch as I work there now, sometimes after work.
Brixton cos I live there.
Wimbledon not so much now as don't hang out with the wombles so much these days
Soho and Bloomsbury
Southbank for wanders

i do parks :D kennington, myatts field, st james, clapham common, brockwell, battersea those are my regulars
i live in brixton but i spend a fair bit of time around holborn/bloomsbury
regents street, quite a bit of stockwell, some clapham, smidgen of streatham, a dash of marylebone high street, southbank and waterloo
i tend to stick to what im familiar with, i must cast my net further i think.....

Work in Westminster - and leave it as soon as I can. Sometimes pop down to Tate Britain at lunchtime.
Live Highgate/Tufnell Park/Kentish Town area. Go to some local pubs and also some over at Belsize Park/Hampstead area.
Spend quite a bit of time walking the dogs on Hampstead Heath.
Take a bus to Swiss Cottage most days on way to work, then sometimes have a drink there on way home.
Drive Mrs F over to shop at Waitrose on Holloway Road if I really really have to.
Occasionally meet up with mates at Finsbury Park and watch some football in pubs over there.
Sometimes go to west end to the cinema, mainly Curzon Soho.
Go to gigs sometimes mainly at Brixton Academy, Astoria, Forum and Barbican.

Live just up the road from Penge, so I tend to just hang around there really...more the Homebase end - you can lose years of your life browsing the tools and kitchen implements.

Work at Green Park so unfortunately have to look at the West End- though actually it has some lovely/interesting back streets.
Live in Brixton and family/boyfriend in Stockwell so I suppose I have to hang round these areas... mainly the day to day living bit.
Favourite places is North London - hackney, Tottenham, Walthamstow...but it's finding a decent reason to visit them... The Rivers Lea and Thames are two great places to have a wander.

jesus! thats practically everywhere!
Yes looking back at that it does seem a little vague. I live in brixton, have friends in SE london and east end, and i work all over london... but didn't think you'd really want to know every suburb i travel to regularly ;) (and no, i am not a minicab driver)
so, that pretty m uch sums up everywhere 'cept north  london that is.
btw, i tend not to travel under the name jesus... :D
