Where can I buy a halogen heater in Brixton?

There's an electrical goods shop in Herne Hill too, just at the bottom of Herne Hill itself (opposite the Sainsburys). Might be worth a try.

This is them:

might be worth a call.

Cheers.:)

I've just rung Robert Dyas and they no longer have the ones on the website in stock, but have new ones. However he was in the basement and couldn't tell me the prices etc, so I'll ring back in a bit.

One like http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produ...+heaters|10197895/Trail/searchtext>HEATER.htm heats the room up within about 30 seconds. But is halogen more energy efficient or something?

Halogen gives off radiant heat so whilst a small one not being effective for heating a large room, it's fine for direct heat (ie. keeping b/f warm on the sofa whilst I freeze on the other side of the room!) :D

Because they give off almost immediate heat, you can get quite comfortable just using them on 400w, whereas something like my oil-filled radiator takes hours and hours to heat the whole living room to a bearable temperature and that's on 2000w

I have an emergency convector heater (with a tiny 'booster' fan heater bit built in) and I'd say 30 secs is a bit of an exageration, they're not bad though. Not sure what they're like in comparison to halogen ones.

Anyway, minnie, if you want to borrow my convector heater in the meantime let me know.

I am currently looking at convector ones on Argos/Amazon and trying to look at reviews to see how quickly they do heat up a room and if they're able to maintain that heat, although I think he might like the direct heat of the halogen.

Well, why don't you borrow mine to test....?

yes, was thinking of that.

It would seem 1kw is the lowest setting on most of them compared to 400w for a halogen.

May nab you next week about this.

Many thanks

PS: WHat make/model is it? Is it heavy?

I'll look when I get home and let you know. I can bring it round. It is not heavy at all.

If it should prove too heavy we can make teuchter do the carrying.

Or perhaps Tarannau. He never shuts up about what pathetic weaklings we are. Give him a chance to be heroic.

No rush.:D We're still using the halogen - until I return it, but I may not need it if I get anything between now and Monday

I need a new one as well, it does piss me off that because its not December anymore all the chainstores have sold out of heaters and thermal underwear and are now stacking the shelves with bikinis and parasols.

I agree. Headlines: It's Winter, so let's all make sure we don't have adequate stocks of heaters :mad:

As we were walking down East Street we got stopped by someone who asked where we got it and for how much and we told him and he was well pleased.

Have you tried Force (or 4orce as they seem now to be) Homecare? just north of the station on the other side. Their basement bit has all kinds of stuff. Just an idea, like, dunno if they have them.

Did anyone mention that Force/4orce no longer exists? Well it does, but it sells clothes now. After all that refurb, it didn't last long
