Where are you from?

i dunno, bath is on the wiltshire borders, and you'd be hard pressed to find a posho in trowbridge, bradford upon avon maybe
I went to school in glamourous Trowbridge :D

I was born in Peterborough but I haven't lived there since I was four: since I've lived nine years in East Yorkshire and six in Hull, I consider myself as being from that part of the world. Hull is home to me.

onket? from up north? he hides that well.

i was born in newham, east london.

i grew up in gants hill, east london/essex.

i have lived all over london, except for two years when i was experimenting with small town life.

i currently live in brixton.

i think i can confidently state therefore that i am from london.

I don't know.I've always found it an offensive question to ask TBH - it's as if the person asking can't really accept that you might have been born here - it certainly a question my sister's sick of hearing.

I hear it all the time too, but I don't find it offensive, it's quite obvious I wasn't born in this country, so I see it more as a topic of conversation rather than rudeness...

Although I can see how it might be annoying for someone born and raised in this country.

Where are you from? is not offensive! read my post again!

I was born in Sheffield and brought up in an area of Rotherham Borough Council, but it has a Sheffield address ffs! (And a Worksop phone number!)

So Sheffield, but I moved up to L**ds just over three years ago and now live in Headingley with a load of student tossers

ps. that's Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Yorkshire, England, Great Britain, United Kingdom, European Union

I thought that the question 'Where are you from originally?' meant what are your origins/heritage from? Have I got it wrong?

Some people get really wound up by that question. There's been a thread about it on here before. I don't get it personally, but then I don't get asked it all the time.

I have asked the question, but only out of interest because someone does not appear to be part of the indigenous population. I have never meant to cause offence and as far as I am aware I never have.

I expect I'll be slated though.

For my terrible sins to humanity I have been sent to Fort William to work. :( I've been here for four weeks and all it's done is piss down with rain. Roll on parole.

My parents are northern (well, midlands & north midlands I suppose) so I was brought up pronouncing words such as bath & grass correctly, then moved up north when I was 18 for about 5 or 6 years. My accent has been described by some as a bit London, a bit northern & a bit West Country. Depends where people are from as to what they hear.
