When taking a bendy bus....

The 50 quid thing is new, £25 if you pay withing 3 weeks.

Police have been doing stings for weeks on the 436 route, hotspots are Oval and Camberwell.

how do they give you a ticket?
i mean if you don't have an oyster, no id, no driver license, no business card.
they can't give you a ticket can they?
you can give them a false name and address...

Thats why they have the police standing by, backing up the Revenue Protection teams.

I got done on my own with luggage at an airport so couldn't really pull the no ID one. They radioed through to check the address I gave was genuine and if I had any outstanding warrents. So if you are going to give a fake name/address make sure they at least appear genuine. I suspect that giving false information to a copper is probably an offence on it's own though.

Best thing is to lean by the scanner (or just pay the fare!)

Have there been any prosecutions/ caselaw for this?

I was thinking the other day surely the same principles must apply as for things like shoplifting? So for example (as I understand it) people cant actually be done for nicking stuff until they walk out of the shop having not paid for the item. In the case of buses presumably it would mean getting off the bus at the end of the journey having not paid so when the revenue protection people storm on and condemn anyone who hasnt paid at that point surely if the people have credit on their oyster they cant be had for fare evasion because they could still pay?

Also what would happen if I got on the bus believing that my oyster has credit on it but in actual fact had only 90p rather than £1 so I couldnt pay for a journey?

There was a case recently where a woman was prosecuted as she was 20p short on her Oyster

they give out these crazy receipts called "tickets".
but anyway with bendy buses you have to buy a ticket from a machine before you board, you can't get one from the driver
