When is freeview going to start working again?

Right - that's it - I'm cutting down all the trees in my garden

Or perhaps I should just buy an indoor signal boosting aerial instead. I can't really do anything about the one on the roof because of the madman who lives in the attic who can't be disturbed.
"Indoor signal boosting aerials" are almost certainly going to be more trouble than they're worth - unless the amplifying stage is very good, all they really achieve is to add noise to the signal, and amplify any interference the aerial may have picked up, too.

There's really no substitute for the best quality aerial you can manage, pointed in exactly the right direction...

Oh well, that's good news I suppose. I wonder what chio was going on about ...

Tropospheric ducting - where high pressure causes signals from areas you'd not normally receive (usually other bits of northern Europe) to come in and interfere with your local transmissions. It's still happening a bit on FM radio here, but my TV is back to normal - but I'm in the North West, so it could be different for you.

But if it's a consistent problem, chances are it's nothing to do with this and it's probably your box or aerial gone wrong. If all you're using is an aerial on the top of the telly, it's bound to be a bit rubbish. Shared aerial systems can be a pain, too, as the available signals are weakened by the fact that they're going to everyone's TV in the building.

So I've had a look on that site (fankusheo v much :) ) and it says I need to turn my aerial south east to catch the rays from the Crystal Palace transmitter.
What transmitter is it pointing to right now then? (I take it you are in London)

As I have the madman upstairs, I can't be fiddling with the aerial.
If you own the flat, you should have a right to access-not sure how you stand if you rent though.

Would an indoor digital aerial work or would that just be a total bleeding waste of moolah?

No easy answer to that one. Ground floor in London-I don't like your chances somehow- tall buildings and lots of trucks and buses interfering-not good.

I can't stand the way that when it rains/is very windy, you get squares and the picture breaking up, like a really poor quality pirate CD (never illegally bought over here, your honour, only in China, so sue me in Beijing, if you can hahaha)...

But some scaffolding gor erected next to my flat on Monday. On Tuesday, I sat down at 19:45h to watch the footy only to discover I had no ITV and no channel 4. Aaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!! Just made it to the pub in time.

I'm pissed off with Freeview. It's crap. Yeah, it's good to get More4 and E4, but when the weather's bad, you get a really crap signal or none at all. At least with terrestrial/analogue, if the weather was bad, at worst it was a bit fuzzy/snowy, but you could still see/hear it. Freeview is shit.

As well as weather interference - and living in Manchester it's more likely to rain than not - every time a motorbike goes down the road past my flat, I get interference. How crap is that? Every time a motorbike goes past my flat, I can't watch telly.

They are going to have to seriously sort it if they want to do analogue switch off anytime soon. The boxes are cheap but the number of people who will need major (and expensive) aerial work is pretty high.

I've got a shitty old aerial here, and only get the BBC/Sky channels. It's OK as a bonus, but as a main system it is nowhere near ready.

My main issue with digi/freeview is the fucking pixellation on, for example, the grass pitches in the World Cup - makes them look like some old C64 videogame or summat with that weirdy colour blocking...same goes for shots of oceans and fire in movies...I assume this has to do with the way digital compresses the image into moving/non-moving elements and that when you get a LOT of movement all over the screen there isn't enough picture data to keep it high res? Fuck knows what watching HD thru an ariel will be like...might actually have to upgrade for HD...

Slightly off topic but did you know Film fours gonna be on Freeview from July onwards!! Woohoo! :)

Yes, I'm looking forward to that. Some of the content on Freeview is ok (UKhistory, More 4 , Sky News, interactive) -it's the technical side that is the problem.

Okay, I've bought an indoor aerial and it's still shit. Actually it's worse. And now I've gone back to the external aerial and I have no terrestrial channels at all!

What's the fucking point of the digital revolution if you have to buy a huge aerial? And for various reasons, I can't fix the rooftop aerial so could the lead/box be at fault? If I twiddle the aerial lead in the socket, the picture improves and it went wrong very suddenly - it's been fine for years and all of a sudden it doesn't work any more.

If it's not likely to be either of those things, is there any way I can attach an aerial on the side of the house, rather than the roof?

Or am I just going to have to get cable?

This whole digital revolution is well-fucked. I live in Kilburn ffs!

Pisses me off too. The problem is with analogue transmission there are relays all over the place. With Freeview transmission, only the main transmitters and *very few* relays carry the signal. My nearest Freeview transmitter is about 12 miles away. But there's a HILL in the way of that so I get my signal off the transmitter for Edinburgh ... over 20 miles away! And it's shit even after running through a booster :p

Have you tried asking the space bunnies?

I'm sure they would be pleased to help.

No I haven't yet. Could you ask them for me? I believe you have the magic antenna to communicate with them :)

Oh Dear!

I feel a bit responsible! :o :p

Out of interest - because it happened here - if you plug the indoor aerial directly into the telly does it make any difference?

<clings loosely to a vague hope>

But I won't be able to see freeview if I do that will I?

I do get terrestrial but analogue only - I retuned the freeview box and now I've only got channel 5 on digital

Question 1 - No. :D

Point 2 - You're only getting Channel 5 on freeview?
Fuck I dunno - try shoving all your leads back in for a start - I had quality pictures last night (excepting c4/itv etc obviously  ) but no sound and it was just the scart plug not jammed in hard enough - afaik it's usual to be without those channels, but to only get c5 is not.....so worth a fiddle. ;)

I loved it when I could watch Jeremy Kyle later and maybe Sally Jesse Raphael too so long as it was one of the 'lover confesses cheating' shows with her blatantly sniggering (as far as you can 'snigger' with such an over worked on face). :(

And heo likes to perve on Judge Judy from time to time too. :(

is that channel BB?

it's 305 with subtitles on for us - it took me weeks how to work out how to make the picture stay on, and felt very pleased with myself when I did :o
