When did you last physically go inna shop and buy music?

i had to will myself to walk past a record shop today in camden market. because i was there clothes shopping and i knew if i went in i'd lose half hour or so. i actually said to myself 'just keep on walking'.

stupid waste of time clothes shopping. didn't get anything. should have gone in the record shop. at least then i'd have some more records.

A few weeks ago when I bought the new Nick Cave album.

Heh. I was about to post the exact same thing. Also bought the last Malcom Middleton album at the same time, which is very good also.

The urge takes me less often these days, but I do like the physical act of buying music in a record shop. Downloading mp3s (the illegal stuff, which I presume people are talking about) seems a bit depressing for some reason, and I'll usually try to save it for stuff I've already got on vinyl, stuff you just can't get, or bands that I've already bought a lot of tunes from.
I wouldn't ever order from amazon (I can walk down the road to a friendly store), and itunes etc is very much an impulse/drunken thing.

Bought the new Youthmovies album from a local record store. I'm of more traditional stock, so i'm likely to keep buying physical records for a time yet.

Nearly ten years ago :o

I couldn't see the point once I knew you could download it for free.

Actually thinking about it, I have bought a couple of bits of vinyl as a gift for someone else.

I bought a couple of cheap drum n bass CDs from Sister Ray on Berwick St when I was meant to be doing Christmas shopping. Think that was the last time.

I bought a vinyl copy of Neil Young's 'Harvest' for £2 in a Portobello Rd junk shop. I thought it was valuable ? but on further investigation may be not

My CD purchases are usually driven by something I've heard online. So it's entirely logical to buy them online - especially now that Amazon features secondhand and other suppliers.

I rarely venture into town for anything - - though I really need to brave Primark later.

January 2008, went into the BHF's book and records charity shop on Streatham high road and bought a couple of 2nd-hand albums on vinyl.

2001ish...instructed too:rolleyes:...I'd dling shizzle for 4 years by then...took it back...CD didn't work...swore I'd never buy shit agin. Haven't.:D

thursday. i tend to visit a record shop at least once a week (conveniently the nearest shop to my house which sells anything at all is one of the best independent record stores in the country, action records  ).

i also generally visit one or two car boot sales a week, and any charity shops i happen to pass if i've a spare minute...

I'm planning a trip up to London tomorrow though, which will definitely take in Notting Hill and the Music & Video Exchange. Might visit the legendary Berwick Street too if I have the chance, or Rough Trade.

OK, I spent so long in MVE, both the rock and pop one and the dance/hip hop one, that I didn't have time to go to Berwick Street or Rough Trade. I managed to get myself 8 albums and an EP for about £35, and I had to stop myself buying more. It was heaven, and I even managed to get the new Girls Aloud album there.

I got an unexpected Xmas bonus once, 1 grand I didn't know I was getting.

I went to Sounds of the Universe / Soul Jazz and spent £450 in one drop.

That was heaven too. :D One of the loveliest afternoons of my life :D

Decent quality
Liner notes
Supporting the artists you like enough to want to listen to their music more than once

I might also add keeping the shops I enjoy visiting in business.

It would take me far longer than one afternoon if I was going to spend that much. Annoyingly, I like almost every style of music in some form, so I'm required to go through every single rack looking for hidden gems. Fuck me it's satisfying when you do though. I found a Carter USM covers EP that I didn't even know existed today, and although I haven't tested it out yet, I remain confident.

I think why I like SOunds of The Universe is that I don't really listen to much indie any more, and that shop majors in reggae, hiop hop, techno, funk etc (and I can ignore the jazz). So I kinda want almost all their stock.

I bought so much, I decided I needed to buy a bag too. Bless them, they threw it in for free :D

don't think i've managed to spend more than £150 in one hit... good going jeff.

i concur on sounds of the universe - probably the best record shop in london...

It works so well because it cuts out all the stuff I can't stand, so I don't have to fight my way through racks of shite :)

And - unlike places like Phonica, and amazingly considering how 'cool' the place is - the staff are lovely. And helpful. And eager.

thankfully, rude staff seem to be a thing of the past in most of the shops i've been in in recent years... one plus point to the drop in vinyl sales i guess. :D

erm..............last year some time? I think i bought The Enemy's first album. It was shit.

That said I downloaded a couple of U Roy albums last week, so karma's balancing out when I eventually buy them.

:)

Decided to celebrate Record Shop Day by purchasing my first 12" Vinyl records. And John Foxx's first single as a solo artist.

Update - today! :)

Went into my local branch of Zavvi to get the new Portishead album, but discovered it's not out till the 28th :(

Still, I came out with the new Breeders album, some cheap Leonard Cohen, Fairport Convention and a couple of volumes of The Beatles' Anthology.
