What's YOUR top 20 albums (or songs) of 2000's?

Yep, exactly - what's everyone's problem with that?

Nothin' wrong with that except you get loads of lists of stuff you may not like, there was a thread a while back where you named a couple of bands that you liked and other posters would recommend similar sort of bands, you may find that more suitable :)

I find it very interesting to see which bands get both praised and slated. Those tend to be the ones I like best. What doesn't interest me much is somebody trying to predict what I'll like by suggesting something similar. It won't help. My taste in music doesn't work that way. Style is completely irrelevant. Some music reaches me and some doesn't. Often I find it very difficult to work out why.

Different whatsits.

Here's a few, off the top of my head:

!!! - Me and Giuliani Down by the School Yard (A True Story) 12"

The Juan Maclean - By The Time I Get To Venus 12"

Out Hud- Let Us Never Speak of it Again LP

Annie - The Greatest Hit 12"

Ladytron - Witching Hour LP

Soulwax - NY Excuse 12"

Whitey - Leave Them All Behind 12"

Miss Kittin & the Hacker - One LP

Sally Shaprio - I Know You're My Love (Juan Maclean remix) 12"

Lindstrom - I Feel Space 12"

Los Hermanos - On Another Level LP

The Plan - Plan B 12"

DJ Zinc - 138 Trek 12"

Sia - Little Man (Exemen works) 12"

Zed Bias - Neighbourhood 12"

Damian Marley - Welcome to Jamrock 12"

That's by no means a definitive list; I've limited it to one record per artist, tracks I could find links to and what I'm in the mood for tonight :)

listened through the lot - fun selection - wonderful good ;) Had a strong What's YOUR top 20 albums (or songs) of 1980's feel

A request for anyone out there to fling together some of their favourite tracks of the decade into a mix for the radio - which if done in time would be played over December and January.

I like how in this thread people have their own personal takes on the music that passes us by, so please go for it! No right or wrong answers

If youve never done a mix before its dead easy - all you need is soem mp3s and follow instructions here:

There;s some great records on that list, but of course it's only an "indie mainstream" list, so it's going to be predictable and miss out a lot.

Only ones I like on that list...but they are quailty albums.

The main surprise about that list is that the MGMT album, which was NME's top last year, doesn't feature at all. I'm not saying it should, just surprised they've left it out. And only one album from this year? Are they kidding?

I'm more surprised by the absence of Franz Ferdinand in their top. I mean, they are the biggest of all the UK post-Strokes indie explosion bands, had more than an handful of covers on the rag, and somehow they don't even have their first album on a top 50 list?

edited: bollocks...didn't notice someone had already printed NME's Average 50.

Pitchfork list still the best one I;ve seen from the mainstream

but The Coral! - only 20 albums better than the bloody Coral in the last 10 years? feck arf!

and non e of them are Pulp's We Love Life, which is fucking criminal. It doesn't even get in their top 100 (the bottom half of which is much more interesting than the top half)

Only ones I like are PJ Harvey, The Streets and Radiohead from that list.

There's probably a couple more in there that I havent listened to to get into enough. But on the whole its a pretty meh list.

it's number 100, there are several albums placed lower in '08 that are now higher (Glasvegas, Mogwai & Bon Iver for starters). Not that there's owt wrong with re-evaluating your opinion.
