What's your most valuable $$$ record?

maya said:
yeah... and sometimes the tapes are so worn or twisted or have been heated in the sun or something, that very odd sound effects take place...

once had a cassette where for the entire B-side, the tape had swapped itself around by accident, so that the music actually played backwards/laterally reversed!
surely that would mean both sides played backwards?

my best cassette purchase recently is a compilation of german disco for 10p. and all the tracks on it are ace!

Every Jam Single on original first press in all the original picture cover. The same again but in Japanese imports. Various other bits and bobs to do with the jam as well as a promo copy of DJ Elite-That Fuct Camera-a stomping techno tune which I paid 22 squid for on E bay.

nope, for some reason only the b-side played backwards, and the a-side was fine... looking through the little "window" that the cassette had in the middle, we could see that the errant tape in question had twisted itself into little loops and warbles that didn't stop the cassette from functioning, but which produced that unexpected result...

there's a lot of absolute gumshoe cack on 2nd hand cassette racks though, let's not overdramatise our finds, or the fashionista brigade will be out sifting by tomorrow lunchtime...
i found "best of disco, vol. 4", which was pretty awful... throwaway rubbish, to be fair... and the worst stuff is so bad you begin to wonder how they can justify charging you money for it- tapes start to disintegrate with age, anyway... sound disappearing and the tape slowly rotting or whatever it's called- smelling bad... urgh

I've got two picture-sleeved original Beatles singles, from 1962 and 1963. How much are they worth??

Twist and Shout EP, and ... erm ... another one ... :o at shite memory ...

Excellent condition, too ...

"Don't blame it on the sunshine-
Don't blame it on the moonlight-
Don't(yes,do) blame it on the good times-
Blame it on the boogie"...

PLEASE don't tell me you own any Big Fun records? :p :D

My ex used to own a rare gatefold in very good condition of Mad Dogs and Englishmen by Joe Cocker. Worth a pretty penny, I'm sure. Bastard.

I myself have got The Wombles, Bedknobs and Broomsticks and a party album by Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart. All yours for 50p! ;)

i've got a fair few records orth more than 100 and quite a lot worth more than 50 but i don't really keep cout anymore cos i ain selling

Before it was issued on CD, my vinyl copy of the first B&S album was worth a fair amount. There were only 1000 copies, so it was a real collector's item. I had a dealer price it at £800 once. It's probably worth £8 now...!!

Mescalinum United - PCP 933 (green vinyl) - usually goes for around £100-150 and I also have Narcotic Network 1 by Frozen (blue vinyl) that goes for about the same

This could be my most valuable but eil are such total scammers that it's probably worth about a third of that.

I'm told these regularly go for around a ton but I'm never gonna sell it anyway:

I stupidly sold the bronze edition of Black Dog's Bytes to Reckless for about 50p and now I find you can flog it for £100

I have the Rolling Stones' Their Satanic Majesties Request with the original holographic image on the sleeve, I like the picture and the colours have not faded at all.

how do you mean, scammers how? that they charge you too much or "real" scammer-scammers?

i'd very much like to know, 'cause i've just placed an order with them- and they have my details... eek!
it seems like they're never replying and now the cd i ordered is deleted from their listings and still no reply... (they haven't charged me for the order, though...)

:o

Relax, I was just referring to their prices as compared to record fairs etc. :)

But (and there are loads of other web record stores who are guilty of this too) taking orders knowing they haven't got the stock in really gets me mad. You wait for a month assuming they'll ship it and then you get a curt email saying they cannot source it.

I hate eil. I tried to buy a plectrum off ebay a couple of years ago. I upped my bidding to £45 (for a plec, I know, but it was special to me). The twats are now selling the same plec for £100. TWATS!

As for valuable vinyl, I have a few original Beatles albums worth £200 and an early pressing of Nirvana's "Bleach" on green marbled vinyl. That goes for about £150. I've seen some of my picture disc singles (GnR, Queen, Metallica) with a £60 price tag on them.

I've got the About a Girl 7" single on Sub Pop signed by Cobain, Novoselic and Chad Channing. No idea how much it's worth because i'm never going to sell it!

I got some COSHH records that I saw go for 100 quid a peice not long ago. And I'm pretty sure the Tob Buzz Special world record is worth a few bob.

I've got a couple around the 60-100 quid mark. The first spiral tribe 12" (U Make Me Feel So Good) which is crap, but highly sought after crap and the oft mentioned Out Of Order - Stung which is worth about the same (aparently)

I think the 12" Motown Junk was worth about a £100 a decade ago ( when they were more popular ), except damp made the cover stick together and tear so it's probaly worth bugger all now.

I'm kinda lucky in that I get given loads of promos as part of my job

They usually end up on ebay - had some U2 12" last year that fetched £45, and a load of U2 branded plastic carrier bags that I was knocking out for £5 each - had 20 of them!

My most valuable LP is probably Pentamerous Metamorphosis album a remix of the Chapterhouse Blood Music. Not sure how much it is worth as you will never find a copy of it for sale.

I got a few things that sell for high prices such as

Black Dog Art 1 (there first release) not seen a copy for sale)
Black Dog bytes, bronze vinyl, two on E bay the other week for £45 ish
12 inch Liquid Air Blue EP inc Liquid men with liquid hearts goes for about £40
U-ziq Tango and Vectif LP on Rephlex goes for about £30-40
B12 Electro Soma on Orange Vinyl goes for a lot, not seen a copyfor years.
Orbital Brown LP goes for £30-50 depending on how many for sale on E bay.

Probably got one or two more rare ones but the prices change so much with current fads and demmand and supply.

Joy Division - Still. Hard Back cover & white ribbon. No idea what it's actually worth, but it's pretty definitely the most valuable there.

One of Sparklefishes uncles died at the end of last year (I think) and left a loft, two sheds and a few rooms full of vinyl. His family reckoned there were about 55,000 records, mostly LP's but a few thousand singles. They have been selling them off ever since (mostly to dealers).
Most were 60's and 70's, some 80's (pop mostly), so even assuming that each was worth £1 on average (very conservative estimate) that would be a fairly decent pension for his widow.
It is quite incredible to see that much vinyl in what is not a very large house.

The 2,139 items include 78rpm, 7in and 12in vinyl singles, cassette, CD and DVD singles, and digital downloads plus an iPod Nano to play them on.....
Mr Hitchcock said: "I started buying first edition number ones every week and then, over the next ten years, updated the collection.

"I would love whoever buys it to continue the collection, or even better I would love it to go into a museum."

Mr Hitchcock's grandfather bought the first ever number one single, Al Martino's Here In My Heart, in November 1952.
how much will it go for?

I once sold Commander Tom - Are Am Eye millenium mix to someone in america for 200:cool:

Karim/Lab4/rr fiece type stuff, 40-60

this was around 2001/2...

got loads of rare hardcore rave, techno and whatever that ive seen go for stupid amonts of money

Original Drill EP, worth about £100 - £150

I also have the original pressing of Dark Side of the Moon, still shrink wrapped with posters and stickers inside. I know its not worth much but I like that it is still unopened since it was bought in the year of its release. Someone knew it was special :)
