What's your most hated song?

It's a tough one. I tend to go for 'hates of the month'.

James Blunt 'you're Beautiful' just slimes it's way into the top ten, for example, but add that dying hound of a face, and it soars away with the most rancid falsetto warblings of Meka.

I think there's a place for simple sentiment in popular music.

Perhaps, but some over-paid git sitting at a piano trotting out a wishy-washy dirge to mutual poverty has no place anywhere, IMO.

Incidentally, whilst trying to find out how much he paid for his piano (george Michael paid over one and a half million to own that little bit of history), I discovered that it has been taken on a round-the-world mission to spread peace.

The income of the artist is essentially irrelevant to the song, just as the flaws of Dickens or Shakespeare are irrelevant to their literature.

This is the time of our lives by cold play? listening to snatches of for 4 months while someone fiddled making his tour video on his lap top again and again and again .The video was almost as boring as the song anyway:mad:
hate hate hate.

I dunno, see, the impression that one gets from listening to Imagine is that we are reading the thoughts of Lennon himself - our knowledge of the man will almost certainly reinforce that. There is no suspension of disbelieve, it is apparant that we are listening to a philosophical viewpoint from one of the men that brought you All You Need Is Love.

While my knowledge of Dickens is not great enough to comment, Shakespeare's life is shrouded in mystery. We are unable to look at his life and see it run counter to any philosophical viewpoint he espoused in his works and thus cry Hypocrite!

Besides which, Imagine would be shit no matter what lyrics you put over the damn tune.

I thought it was modest, pared-down and made its point effectively.

well that's marvellous. I don't, hence my comment. Which perhaps deserved a different response - or even no response at all - rather than your childish little post :)

DJ Otzi 'Hey Baby' - devoid of all merit.

Almost any slow track by yodelling bints like Mariah and Sea-Lion Dion - guaranteed to have stupid birds going 'Ohhh, she's such a good sing-ah' and anyone else wanting to kill themselves.

You're going to love the new single by (X-factor) Leona, Cloo - completely swamped by the bloody warbles towards the end.

I blame Witney and Mariah.

While we're on the topic why does everyone hate "We Built this City" by Starship so much? Ok the lyrics are a tad shit but it's got a good riff and it's not like it's lyrics are THE worst.

I love that song, and I'm not afraid to say so :)

that Clint Black song said:
If they won't show us their weapons
we might have to show them ours.

Fantastic! What happens if they do show their weapons - will we have to put ours away again?

Anyway, I can't pick just one song to hate on for all time. There are so many worthy contenders. For the amount of pain it caused me, 'You're Beautiful' would be way up there though.

Well of course it may be some time before I can aspire to your standards of commentary and courtesy, but nevertheless it may be in order both to question your choice, this being in the nature of debate, and to observe that my second comment was, in fact, not directly about the song referred to, but referred ironically to my first.

The one with a male singer that goes 'I feeeel soooooo-eeee-siiiiiiidal, soooooo-eeee-siiiiiiidal, soooooo-eeee-siiiiiiidal' etc. Just my current bugbear, there'll be another one along shortly.

I have no idea. There aren't that many songs I actively dislike - just a lot that I'd prefer not to hear. :D

A lot of late-90s dance-pop pap would come high on the list - especially anything by Ultra Nate or Sash!, 'cos a mate used to inflict that stuff on me whenever I got in his car. I got my own back with The Smiths whenever he was in mine.

That 'If I die before I wake/at least in heaven I could skate' gets right on my wick as well. Why I don't know, because it isn't especially offensive, but the inane lyrics irritate me.

Hmmm, Dubversion. Likes to express his opinions, doesn't like other people disagreeing. Small fish, small pond.

don't mind a disagreement at all, but not sure that  constitutes such a disagreement.

If that smiley doesn't constitute scepticism, what does?

bit lacking in content though?

i can't be arsed donna - it was a lighthearted thread, i posted what i knew was a predictable response but you just HAD to take issue with it didn't you?

tiresome as ever.

It's possible that I may have felt this about your choice of course.

It's the thing about rock 'n' roll commentary - it tends not to think of itself as a two-way process. The cool slag off the non-cool and everybody admires them for it.

That bloody song makes me feel soooo-eeee-siiiiiiidal myself.

You should be. The blatant disregard for the basics of architecture and town planning in that song is unforgiveably irresponsible.

Oh, I see. I - as the 'cool' person in your analysis - am simply acting out an age-old role in slagging off the 'non-cool' in this scenario, seeking to gain admiration?

Glad we've sorted that out then

is it not possible that i just don't like the song? and are you sure EVERYONE admires me for it? bit sloppy, no?

Hey there delilah you know I've only got three chords
Coz I'm a whiny little gobshite and I just pissed in my drawers
Please kill me now

Hey there Delilah what's it like in new york city
You're a thousand miles away because this song is just so shitty
But I don't care
It's hard to give a fuck when you get so much money from saga FM

Ooooooh the mob has come for me
OooOOooOoh the mob has come for me
They all heard my song and now they're sending their best hitmen after me

*bang* *splat*

LOL you two.

This is quite possibly your pissiest "debate" yet.

(Keep it up, guys)

There's a really dreary song by Usher that my daughter played all the time that I hate as well but I can't remember the name of it. :o

I quite like Imagine Dub, but that won't surprise you. :D
