Whats your most expensive/rarest/collectible record?

it's got a brown cardboard cover and a fold-out paper sleeve :hmm:

searching to confirm that, i came across my copy of the first on-u sounds single, by New Age Steppers & London Underground - Fade Away / Learn A Language which seems pretty elusive to obtain, no copies available on discogs. Also got a copy of the NAS album which is going for ~$60

From what i remember the brown cardboard sleeve was printed on, i have actually had 2 of these thru my hands but 15 yrs agoi

I wonder if anyone has 2nd Discharge single with the band name and title brushed out? I have only seen it once, flogged it, silly boy

Thing is with hardcore, as perhaps with jungle, is that it's difficult to find copies in good condition 'cos the majority of them were bought by spotty herbert djs ;) when they came out who either had decks or knew someone that had decks so consequently they were cained! :D I bet only a small number of people who bought them new, were collectors or just played them infrequently.

is there any website or forum which would perhaps list the most valuable early hardcore/breakbeat/jungle records. back in the early 1990s i used to get sent all that stuff (moving shadow, reinforced, vinyl solution, XL etc etc...countless other lesser known labels i can't remember) - often on white label - as i was DJing a lot and doing reviews for a few mags, but generally would have only played the records once as i was never into that type of music. Sure i'll still have boxes of that stuff in storage back in Scotland and more than happy to flog it all.

it has indeed. if i can sort out a lead for my mixer to laptop, i'll sort you out an mp3 in due course if you remind me.

from limited edition number 4779

Apologies - I've only just seen this, Paulie. I'd really like an mp3 of 'Weekend on Mars' if it's possible. Cheers. :)

I suspect it would have been The Beatles 'Let it Be' box set with glossy book. If I hadn't cut up the box to use the pictures to decorate my wardrobe

^ lol

I remember reports of a dealer buying relitively cheap copies of either just the book or just the box in good/EX condition then pairing them them together and selling the whole set for good money.

Got The Dogs first single just before it went out of print, in it's pretending to be oh so indie cardboard and packing tape sleeve - was going for £40 on amazon. Prices have calmed down now, but if I'd got the vinyl it'll still be worth something (according to Record collecter in a past modern collectable feature.

I've got that one sided White Stripes red vinyl that was almost free from Mojo magazine - went for £51 on ebay according to popsike
and the mailing list only Keane record of The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore with the box
http://www.popsike.com/php/detaildata.php?itemnr=300113866993
when I get sorted on ebay I'll stick on there with the ret of the promo stuff

I've got a load of Dogs D'Amour gatefold/coloured vinyl stuff in a box in the loft. I've got no idea how much it's worth.

I've also got a one sided pressing of the Wildhearts Turning American. I picked it up from a market in 1992 before the band were signed. I got it as I was going to see Love/Hate at the Woughton centre in Milton Keynes and The Wildhearts were the support act. It has no record label markings on it. It's just a black 12 inch sleeve with a little white sticker on it. I don't know if it was financed by the band or anything, but it's a oddity.

In the box in the loft.

Whilst doing a bit of wheeling and dealing ive just managed to score myself a killer bit of vinyl in MINT condition for next to nothing:

Its basically a record that came out in tandem with an early Galstonbury session, and has got loads of nice booklets and other bits alongside the vinyl.

Seems like it usually sells for a minimum of £300 on ebay. Cool slice of alt brit cultural history. Feels too nice to sell on, but im going to have a think - an item like this needs to be fawned over by the owner... probably deserves a better home than with me!

El Jefe posting:

i'm finally sorting through the stuff I want to sell - almost my entire CD collection for starters, aside from the stuff I DJ with, and some choice dance and jungle stuff too

So no country, reggae, soul, swing etc, but lots of dance, indie, punk, hip-hop, jungle, pop and rock.

Selling the CDs for 2-3 quid each unless they're special / rare. PM Pieface if you want a copy of the list, with an email address.....

true. there was no thread, which tbh i was a little disappointed by. should do these things proper... :(

i'll have a copy of the list anyway please jeff. :)

I've got the original 'Ready Steady Who' EP which I'm told is worth a few bob.

I gave away  'Ready Steady Who' EP, on Reaction Record label. It had a scratch though. :D

Still have the Who's 'My Generation' single, also scratched.

Someone nicked my copy of 'Won't Get Fooled Again', along with a copy of the 'Woodstock' album.

'What's that spell? Fuck!'

Whilst not what you probably would call classically collectable/rare, but at the same time one of my prized possessions:

Original Metalheadz 'dubplate 10" press' - Goldie - Angel/Doc Scott - VIP Drumz

Ive got a brain that if you say anything a song pops into my head linked to it. as a result i catch myself whistling all kinds of crap! Anyhow, i pass through Angel tube most days, and it rarely fails to trigger Goldie's Angel. What a track  deserves framing! (Drumz is classic too of course - all 84 version of it!)

got a copy of Second Hand - Reality for £15 3/4 years ago (saw it while browsing one of those non-ebay auction sites with out many buyers and remembered Record Collector had had it in a list of rare psych). Just looked it up and popsike says it's sold from £41 - £166:eek::)

^ latest Record Collector has a mint copy of Reality - Second Hand (get it the right way round  ) at £250 :cool:
