What's your longest single song you have?

I have a Jeff Mills' Cycle 30 has some locked grooves on it, which are in theory infinitely long, so I win!

Hardly, the song "ends" when the 8 bar loop completes one cycle.

You loose. :D

Orbital - Out there somewhere is close on 25 mintues, as is Echoes by Floyd.
out there somewhere is part 1 and part 2 though - so 12 minutes or so each. :p

i have:

isaac hayes - do your thing - 21 minutes
miles davis - circle in the round - 19 minutes

there's loads more, but my mind is a bit blank...

oh yeah - moby's hymn - alt. quiet version is lurking in my record collection somewhere... i haven't listened to it in many years, but iirc it was 70 minutes of tedious ambient shite. all one song though...

Tiesto - Nyana 1 - 77.18
Tiesto - Nyana 2 - 79.00

although these are dance mixes so some people debate that they arnt all one track

Yeah, the Necks (drive by is about 5 mins longer than mosquito), the Orb (I lost the super-long version of "ever growing pulsating brain" :()...

William Basinski does some pretty long tape-loop droney things... "the river" comes in 2 45 minute parts... so i guess you could argue it's 90 minutes long, but hm...

Generally kinda ambient shit, i guess.. bring on the drones!

Salt Marie Celeste by Nurse With Wound, which clocks in at 1:01:58. I wouldn't exactly call it a song :D but it is a continuous track.

Sun Precondition Two - Art Ensemble of Chicago - 21:19

If we're talking about "songs" where someone sings & all that antiquated shit :p, then Fela Kuti's probably a strong contender... plenty of singing & lyrics, & songs clocking in at 30 mins ("confusion break bones" for a start)

NoFX - the decline, one song on the cd, 18mins of NoFX doing what they do best!

much better than the drival on greendays american idiot album.

not stupidly long and only mentioning it as its a great track (i'm sure he's done longer) - curtis mayfield - move on up (full length version) is 8:53 and it only gets better as it goes on.. breaks down into tablas and builds back up again instrument by instrument and messes around for ages without vocals.. absolutely kills it.. if you thought you'd had enough of this song, think again and listen to this.

Cutis Mayfield R.I.P

Orb - "Blue Room" that actually clocks-in at 40:00:20
"Echoes" is on 16.30 long - I thought it was actually about 27 minutes
Rainbow "Catch" The Rainbow 15.35
and the live version of Queen's "Brighton Rock" is 12.13.

Not epic, but long enough!

Your right how punk is a long song ?

What's the punk cut off?

mmmmmmmm, good point, i dont really know an answer to that, i wil have to have a little think. depends if NoFX are punk enough for you or too west coast 1990's "punk". Cos i love the decline tis pure genius, but then lots of old skool punk songs i have are 1:50-2:50 kinda length, short sharp simple sweet fast and good.

Smart I'm going to compile a list of songs that I can play in a 24 hr period, with the least number of changes (possibly the most boring dj set in the world  T.M. )

We Will Fall - 10.15 (whether or not on a saturday night)
FunHouse - 7.46
Rich Bitch- 10.52

all punk as fuck!

I'm guessing the longest i have is either by Fela Kuti or Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, however there aren't any track times on the CDs i have, so i dunno exact length but i'm guessing some by both are over 20 minutes - Fela LPs were typically one track per side and max length of an LP is about 45 min...

IIRC that tune inspired the invention of the reggae 12" discomix format...

Sister Ray off the Velevt Underground's Whit Light White Heat is over 20 minutes i think, it's great too, not a wasted second.

I must wholeheartedly agree with this, having just re-discovered this tune, very loud, with sun streaming in through the window.

i have some prog rock in my collection...

its so hard to choose just one...

but one I actually like is marillions grendal (about 17 minutes I think)
