What's your favourite Stranglers' Single

The last time I saw The Stranglers must have been about 1992 with the bloke who replaced Hugh Cornwell. They just seemed like a covers band.

In fact I know nothing of what they've done for the past 16 years.

Saw them at some free festival in Leeds in the early 90s but not a patch on when I saw them in the 80s with Hugh - especially one in Belfast S.Union when someone spat chewing gum at him and it stuck to his forehead. The more he tried to shake it off, the more it stretched and stuck to his ear. Poor fella - he was well pissed off before throwing down his guitar and storming off before the encore leaving the rest of them looking a bit bemused and wondering what to do next. I think it was shortly after that he left the band - good gig though.;)

I always liked "Don't Bring Harry" and "La Folie" as well since they're both a bit dark and weird - I think the former was on an e.p. - does that count?

They are playing "next door" here in Dubai on Friday!

Been a fan since I was ten, but never seen them live. Can't bring myself to see them sans Hugh either.

That said, I will be able to hear them anyway if I am in the flat that evening.

I did actually go see Hugh play a solo set about 18 months ago, in some spanish bar - also in Dubai.

Very hard choice to make. I'd say my favourite song of theirs is Hanging Around but it wasn't a single.

Of the singles I'd probably say Golden Brown but I love their early stuff & have some of the early singles (Grip/London Lady, Five Minutes) in their original picture covers.

Nope - Toiler wasn't a single.

I agree with you about the misses - they did some serious stinkers, both singles and albums. However, I forgive them because the good was very good.

The Ice Queen! :D

I think what I like about them is they were always so dishevelled and gauche. Never quite clever, never pretty and always on the edge of being unfashionable. And a real talent for riffs.

Peaches means ladies bottoms I think.

Who Wants The World gets my vote with Nice'n'Sleazy as a runner up.

something better change.

daganham dave if that was on any single. :)

i never really liked the stranglers when i was into punk, but that was probably cos the 'received wisdom' at the time was they weren't a punk band. also some of them had facial fungus going on. and my dad's best mate was into them.

but on hindsight, and having picked up their first three LPs and Live x-certs a while back they are a pretty fucking good band.

i kinda like their sleazy image too. i doubt any of their members were ever called on child-minding duties that often.
