But your poll was rubbish, with hardly any films prior to 1970, when, arguably, the best musicals were made. At least this poll has 6.

Of the list, Singin' in the Rain is the best film, however, for some reason, I do like My Fair Lady, so I'll vote for that.

Bugsy Malone

i guess you can't take a joke, never mind, why don't you fuck off, respectfully?

:) :) :)

you're not still sore at me for not giving a shit that london and bath film festivals are on at the same time are you?

silly sausage

I voted West Side Story for Bernsteins music but was sorely tempted to go for 'Calamity Jane'. You cant beat a bit of Doris Day.

Scrooge with Albert Finney is one of the great musical films that I remember from my childhood, especially the song that goes "Thank you very much, thank you very much, that's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me."

What LostProphet said. 'Shut Your Fucking Face Unclefucker' is a really catchy number. As is 'Kyle's Mum Is A Big Fat Bitch'. ;)

west side story

but closely followed by caberet, singin in the rain (which i watched on xmas day while my family snoozed), moulin rouge, calamity jane, and earth girls are easy...

LostProphet beat me to it. The South Park movie was one great musical.

It doesn't really fit the genre properly, but i tend to think of the Coen Brothers film O Brother, Where Art Thou? as a musical. And i love it.

Of the ones on the list it would have to be The Wizard of Oz or Singin' in the Rain.

I also really love these:

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Funny Face
Meet Me in St. Louis
Phantom of the Paradise
All That Jazz
Top Hat
The Wicker Man

Caberet obviously but I suspect Trey Parker may be new Noel Coward. His lyrics for Team America are particularly moving.
America...
America...
America, FUCK YEAH!
Coming again, to save the mother fucking day yeah,
America, FUCK YEAH!
Freedom is the only way yeah,
Terrorist your game is through cause now you have to answer too,
America, FUCK YEAH!
So lick my butt, and suck on my balls,
America, FUCK YEAH!
What you going to do when we come for you now,
it’s the dream that we all share; it’s the hope for tomorrow

Greatest Musical Ever.

Not... well, OK, very very very bad :D

But for content it's still Cabaret.

Thought that might have been trumped for kitsch if there'd been an option for a proper musical like...

I watched Annie for the first time on New Year's day.

What was Albert Finney thinking?

Tim Curry(Frankenfurter) is in Annie as well.

As for all you mincing about no Rocky Horror...I only had 12 options..not everyone is going to be happy. Now pipe down.
