it's too easy to slag off coldplay.

the bands that you really should be against are the ones that have been snapped up in coldplay's wake: keane, athlete, james blunt etc etc

it's a classic case of the record industry getting an idea in its head (mournful, millenial acoustic indie toss), then flogging said idea to death.

btw my fave is 'don't panic'

'Yellow' and 'Trouble' - decent singles from a debut album that promised good things. :)

'In My Place', 'Clocks' and 'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face' - very good singles from and highlights of a solid if slightly-flat-overall second album. :)

'The Scientist' - awesome; inspired.

'Speed Of Sound' - astoundingly average and smugly complacent rewrite of 'Clocks' from inflated, entry-to-big-league, playing-it-safe-in-a-New-Labour-kinda-way third album. :(

'Fix You' - mawkish, turgid, I-can-walk-on-fucking-water bollocks that should have been drowned at birth.

me too - i thought akirajoel was trolling, until all these coldplay fans appeared out of the woodwork. and even the hardiest warriors seem to have given up the fight against bland...

Coldplay were certainly not the first boring toss dadrock shiteband - Travis, ahem - but they're still around and people still appear to like them and they have never made a good song and they deserve nails through the bollocks.

They may have many tossy aspects - and they pale to a fakir's watery beige hue in comparison with the mighty Radiohead - but Keane convince me that you can go far worse than Coldplay.

C'mon. Keane, for fuck's sake.

Keane.

K-e-a-n-e.

Doesn't the very word make you wanna...make you wanna...

It makes me want to kill them by throwing Coldplay out of a plane onto them.

Everything has its time and place..

But I personally think that Politik is their best tune by a mile. When I first heard it I must have played that non stop and not even bothered with the rest of the album.

I remember the reviews reporting that that was Coldplay going a bit angry and experimental and then feeling a touch underwhelmed when I heard it...

Coldplay are one of my guilty pleasures, i realise I should hate them with a passion yet I cant help liking most of their songs. Of course I would never waste a saturday night at Glastonbury by actually watching them live :)

Every time someone says they like a Colplay song a fairy somewhere turns entirely beige.

I'm very proud to say that I have no idea what any of those 'songs' sound like [/smug mode]

(except for Yellow and that's shite  )

You'd know any one of them if you heard them. They. Cannot. Be. Escaped. :p ;)

People! We cannot run! We can only turn and fight! So arm yourself and face the menace! Together we can stop this force that threatens to bore us into submission!

Ha! Well Coldplay going experimental is hardly going to sound like Can or Einsturnde Neubaughtemakjdshfmmmm is it. But if that song had been done by say, the Arcade Fire or someone, everyone would be raving about it, but as its Coldplay they don't. Still their best song imho, better than anything off the new album. Or Keanes, or Travis' albums (I'm guessing at this bit... :D )

p.s - talking of guilty pleasures, am I allowed to like Photograph by Nickelback  I'm usually a fellow of such refined taste!
