what's your fave pasta shape?

No way, you go to the trouble of making your own canneloni and you don't make your own pasta sheets?

I'm sad, sickened and disappointed Mr Clyde
:(

I've never made my own pasta and probably never will. I don't make my own puff pastry either. :p

yeah but my point is, you can only do one thing with lasagne pasta, and that is LASAGNE. all other pasta shapes you can put with any sauce and different types of meal.

what is it you like about the rectangle flatness of lasagne? hmmm? i suspect it's all the cheese and meat and bolegnese around it HENCE why it doesn't count.

oddball.

WRONG!!

you can do a veggier lasagne

a ricotta and spinich lasagne

a beef mince lasagne

a turkey mince lasagne!

canelloni

and you can eat em with pitta bread!:D

Dry sheets are not ideal for other pasta shapes.

They're just about bearable for lasagne, but then so would a fine layer of cardboard if it was covered with fat enough layers of bechamel, cheese and meat.
:D

Ach, it's actually not that difficult. Worth it if you're making canneloni I reckon - 'sheets' are probably the worst type of dried pasta if you ask me (and the simplest to shape/make).

Agree with you about pastry mind. Leave the desserts for someone who cares - that's what pâtisseries are for.
:D

I can't believe so many peoples favourite is penne. That comes close to the bottom with me along with those bows.

Big fan of fusili, spirali, spaghetti, taglietelle and most other pasta shapes, but penne and bows :hmm:

My current favourite trottole

I agree with Electrogirl over the lasagne issue, but I don't know about the pitta one.

I entirely agree with her on the pitta issue too. Ever since Stalker described his 'ideal' pitta sandwich I've been suffering - my mouth's still dry at the thought now.

Don't you need a special machine?
<shudders at memory of a patisserie chef in a kitchen I worked in making chocolate spaghetti>

i always have my pasta undercooked. and i say 'oooh it's al dente'

aka i'm really hungry and can't wait the extra 2 minutes for it not to be a little bit crunchy

I've not long discovered fusilli bucati pasta. long and hollow and twisty. It's great! I also like linguine, casarecci for pesto, spirali and penne.

Nah, you can just use a good old rolling pin and 00 flour. It's not as though you'll be making huge amounts. I used to love to watch old chinese dudes makes noodles similar to spaghettini simply with their fingers, stretching and flicking with awesome dexterity.

Don't add chocolate to the mix and you'll be fine and dandy.

I would of course, by lying to say I could be arsed often, but then I'm not that fussed about stuffed pastas. If you're making canneloni it's probably worth it.

Thats coz you have bad taste!:p

honest you are a loon.

i kind of love you for it cos i don't know ANYONE that would say lasagne to the question 'what's your favourite type of pasta?'

oh yeah i really like sheets of oblong thin pasta, you know, the ones that can only be used in one kind of meal, yeah that kind.

FREAK.

it's the kind of thing my mum would say.

Well, tbh, I like to eat my pasta with a big spoon because that way I can make sure my pasta/sauce ratio is always just how I like it, and I can use more sauce. I like eating lots of things with a spoon, in fact.

Perhaps I'm an ideal candidate for a spork?
