What's yer local Indian restaurant like?

Who calls it 'Indian food'?

it depends where you are and who you're speaking to i imagine. There's hardly any Indians in Bradford and I can't see Pakistanis referring to the restaurants in the city as serving 'indian food'

Every white person I know.

As i say, 'pends where you are. No one I know does because there are so few indians round here. Unless it is actually an Indian restaurant as there are only 2 in the city, so are worhty of labelling as such

hardly a scientific source. I'll find out when I'm out and about and let you know what the case is here

The Guild of Bangladeshi Restaurateurs say 85% of Indian restauraunts are Bangladeshi ran and also refer to it as Indian food.

Well, they would, wouldn't they?

Look, I know you're jsut dying to win 'the argument' but I'm not convinced. I'll ask around round here and let you know the situation.

Have a fine weekend ;)

Do you?

(hint: some of us have never been south of Lesmahagow ;) ).

Equally: where? ;)

Southall and Bradford = the major Indian/Pakinstani/Bangladeshi areas in the country.

Ah, Bradford I've heard of. It's in the Deep South. "Last of T'Soomer Wahn" coontry.

So, Southall's near Bradford? Why didn't you say?

My local one is called Ruchi, in Kingsgate Road, Kilburn NW6.

Top quality food.

The owner has a nice new car, which I have a sneaking suspicion that me and my housemates paid for......

Giles..

Babur in Honor Oak is fantastic & we are just in their delivery area. The restaurant is Zagat rated..

This is now my local! Been there a couple of times (not since we moved to the area) & it is lovely.

Believe me, the Shahee Bhelpoori in London Road, Norbury (other side of the road to the railway station/copshop but between the two) is the mutt's nuts - cheap, fantastic food, excellent, friendly service. It's veggie, but I eat meat & love the place.

Here in Hull there are quite a few Chineses and you can't chuck a stone without hitting a kebab or pizza (or usually both) shop.

Most of the takeaways do everything badly so it's hard to get a decent takeaway of any description.

Luckily my local chippy is very good and the Chinese a five minute walk away is excellent.

Indians? Don't even recall ever seeing one :(

It's strange. Hull is not without its asian population and there are some excellent Indian shops but I can't think of a single takeaway. Maybe they are all over on the east side of town where only the bravest fear to tread.

I've been blessed with a good balti.

It's rare to find a consistently good 'Indian' restaurant but my local nearly always produces the goods.
