Actually your right, if we put things like Skate and BMX parks, kids playgrounds, coffee tables etc in the middle of a street, with just enough room for drivers to negotiate, they might realise that the street is a public space, and priority goes to children playing and pedestrians first, then cyclists, and they can only move forward with their permission, not as a matter of right.

Really hate it when cars wanting to overtake when I am signaling to turn right on a shopping street when it is obviously a place for people to be and not for transport flow. They usually make no effort to slow down, but rather blow their horns, then I notice them speed by shaking their heads as though I was wrong. Then of course having risked my life they sit for 10 mins at the end of the road at the next junction. It is drivers attitudes that need changing. They have almost no rights of passage on a street, they must share the space and 5mph is about the correct speed to go.
