whats up with cannabis?

Actually, I believe it's approx. £37,000 per year (average), the re-offending rate of prisoners is between 60-80%.

Thanks. What an appallingly stupid way to spend our taxation.

Just in the news today...if I am ever stopped with a quantity of cannabis in my charge I must waffle about it being in the 'guest pocket' of my trousers, with a possibility of having been there for the past twenty years. Surprising really, because one would have thought that the Attack Droog would have calmed down and contemplated peace not war after a few tokes. Maybe he forgot to inhale.

heres a quote from a man called Alan Buffry, how accurate or reliable it is i dont know
Sounds about right to me. Although it is your right to defend yourself (subject to new rules preventing it in rape, etc. cases and certain other circumstances), judges get frustrated by litigants in person as they tend to go off on one and not stick to the legal rules which have evolved to ensure a fair trial (bearing in mind there is always society if not an actual victim which is entitled to fairness and justice as well).

Comments such as the ones mentioned would probably manage to get into a summing up, but not during the evidence when it is questioning of witnesses, NOT providing additional information, which is the order of the day.

Am I right in believing it costs in the order of £20,000 - £25,000 per year to imprison somebody in the UK?
Yep, nearer to £25,000 if they're convicted prisoners, and more if they're on remand.
How many people are currently in UK prisons for selling or smuggling cannabis?
Very hard to say, given that policy (and the approach of the courts to sentencing and punishment for such offences) keeps changing, which makes compiling accurate statistics a nightmare.

Surely that's a simple statistic to gather?

It's a very clearly stated question.

Records must exist.
