Whats the proper genre name for weird dance?

if you said electronica to me, I'd be thinking of much more chilled electronic music, stuff that has descended directly from kraftwerk, though I'm struggling to think of an example right now. IDM is a terrible name.. experimental electronica perhaps, or just tighter genres like drill'n'bass or breakcore which won't accomodate every act that fits together in this kind of music.

IMO, there's not really one genre that even covers all the artists in the OP.
luke vibert- which alias? Some of his stuff is DnB, some is acid, some is triphop, some is even techno
aphex twin- (again which alias) but the stuff he's best known for is either acid proto-breakcore, or ambient-techno, or electronica
ceephax- Neo-acidcore
squarepusher- Drill and Bass sometimes, but usually jazzbass-wankery these days
cylob - braindance

But whatever, these terms are meaningless intellectual posturing. Go to Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music for all the nomeclatural fun you'd ever want[

oh idm was just american school kids on the internet bullying people to call it that
trust me i remember those fucking geeks shoving it down everyones throats
christ that was crap, im totally glad its dying out

basically people are calling it a&d now (analogue and digital) cos its based on electronic music but you cant say electronic music because that covers too many artists

a&d is stuff like analord and ceephax and squarepusher
basically anything electronic that is really good

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analogue_and_digital

it's quite a new name but i love it really, good name like d&b. but you have to watch out cos if you say it probably loads of americans will try and bully you into saying idm. sad cunts hahaha.

time to rave!!!!!!

a&d artists:

ceephax live!!

a&d is my fave genre (as you can tell lol)

I can't say I've ever heard the term 'A&D'.... I can't imagine it ever coming out of my lips. I think I'll stick to 'electronica'.

I've not bought anything in this vein for yonks now - I think the last one was Chris Clark's Body Riddle.

So.. anything essential that I should check out? (Slight derail I know!)

yeah chris clark would come under electronica its a bit cold and cerebral music that is. "beard music" lol

a&d is more like for chilling out or going to a rave or having a laugh
"party music" :) aciiid

I have a term for it:

'Noodly electronic music for boys that girls rarely dance to'

It's like some of the early nu skool break clubs - almost exclusively male affairs, very few women.

love the pic....

right im a&d'd up to my eyeballs now, i thought i had a fair old bit before, but i have loads now, i'd always liked aphex and squarepusher, but really liking cylob and venetian snares....... definately more interested in set than albums too :)

sorry roland it'll always be bedroom knob twiddlery to me no matter what the american kids want to tell me.
