What's the oldest item of clothing you possess?

If we're talking vintage (or vontage if you're zenie :p ) I have a 1920s fitted jacket and quite a few bits from the 50s - a few dresses and skirts and a leather jacket

is this thread about things you've had and worn for a long time - or is it about vintage clothes?
Sorry, I really mean 'have owned for the longest time'

I've got a white short-sleeved cotton top with a bit of a crocheted neckline that I got in Greece 15 years ago and that I've worn lots every year since. I still like it lots and it's kept extremely well (getting on now a little bit round the embroidered edges).
Best MPW (money per wear or whatever it's called) ever!
And to think that when I bought it it was up against some other top (longsleeved, with much more complicated tassles etc) that I now know I would have only worn once or twice and not felt comfortable in at all.

For once I made the right decision.:D

I've got this old yellow sweatshirt thing I got in 1981, I've cut the arms off it and cut the neck down to an indecent level and now I wear it with shorts around the house, it brings back happy memories! ;)

I have a gaberdine raincoat that I inherited from my uncle. He bought it in 1947 and I used to wear it a lot until about 10 years ago. It needs some restoration work or something done to it because the cuffs are frayed and it needs a new belt and some more buttons.

I have a couple of gorgeous formal dresses that must be atleast a decade old now () that are too expensive for me to throw out, I still wear them or lend them out occasionally. Apart from that I have an opera cloak that was my grandmothers, my walking boots which I got when I was 14 ish and are somehow still going strong, my drysuit which I think I got when I was 16 and is more repairs than anything else.

I think you should wear all these at once and post a photo :D

Thing I've owned longest is probably a long, stretchy bronze dress that's 10 years old - I still wear it loads, in fact only the other day I was searching the house cos I wanted to wear it. Great value for money considering it was only 80 squid.

I am shocking for keeping and wearing clothes long past the point where they should have been given a decent burial though - I hung onto a black sleeveless poloneck from Mark One for aaaaaages, wearing it even when the white deodorant stains around the armholes had become too shameful to bear.

:o :o

I've got a handknit aran jumper that I aquired 15 years ago, through my dad having been given it by a freind who made it for her ex husband. I reckon it's about 35 years old, older than me, and still looks alright.

Husker Du t-shirt from 1990 or so. It still has boot imprints on it from some cad that did a feet first stage dive into my chest at a Therapy gig (at clapham junction I believe). He hit me so hard they haven't washed out.

The Flesheaters and They Might Be Giants t-shirts from 1995, presents from girlfriend of the time, all the way from USA. Enormous sentimental value.

Bumfreezer leather jacket also from 1990ish

I still have a shirt by French Connection (remember them?) which I bought in a sale on Cheapside in 79/80. I love that shirt and suffer delusions that I will one day fit back into it.:(

Oh, my great aunt gave me a white 50s dress with red polka dots. That's deffo the oldest :)

Mine is white with blue polka dots. Is your dress from Bourne & Hollingsworth? Has it got a tie belt and a small zip up the side(in the waist area)?

have a pair of quicksilver shorts I remember my grandad buying for me over the phone when about 14.......still in pretty decent condition save no elastic so can't put anything in the pockets though still wear them round the house no probs...they are about 14 years old:)

Also got a england squad t-shirt from fitter days which I can squeeze into though never really wear it save when lording it up about past glories

A suede leather waistcoat that made me look so Rock n Roll in the 80's  but now makes me look like a gardener a la Monty Don

A Quicksilver baggy short sleeved cotton shirt that was gotten by Ill means in a trendy overpriced surfy shop in Oxford in 1996

i dont really have that many old clothes, due to being rather fat as a teenager, and rapidly shrinking since then.

my oldest clothes would probably be a tshirt that is 6 years old...
