What's the difference between having sex and making love?

When I want to shag my bf I never say 'do you want to make love?', or 'did you enjoy our love-making session, darling?' cause that just sounds puke inducing...

In my vocabulary:

having sex/shagging = making love
fucking = having sex

... or something like that! :p

I've confused myself now! :D

seems like a crazy question to me. you can have truly amazing sex with someone that certainly is not making love because you don't love them. or not even love, just don't have strong emotional feelings for.
otoh, you can just have a shag with a partner that you love more than anything in the world, sometimes too. if the mood takes you..
I agree there, but that also confuses me because it makes me wonder what the difference really is? Ive always thought I preferred making love to having sex, but maybe what I really prefer is good steamy sex within a loving relationship? :o

you can definitely have full-on hardcore loving with someone you adore, and it most certainly is just fucking, and not love-making.
then the next day (or the next hour, whatever) you can be definitely, make no mistake it, making love. there is a world of difference.
anyway, it's all over-rated, imo!

Now that depends on who you are shagging/screwing/making love to/whatever.... :D

yeah and i don't mean it anyway. it's just the kind of thing single people come out with when they haven't had sex / fucked / shagged for a few weeks.

(and no this time it doesn't include Motorhead :D )

Yeah, I find it strange, because even within the realm of pure lust, there's a whole range of difference between the kind of touch you can have. But, this was all with reference to other arguments, basically what does your experience3 of the range of emotional quality in touch, tell you about human spirituality, physicality etc.

It's odd though, because it looks like quite a lot of people reckon the distinction is a kind of romantic bollocks. But for me, it really means something. I mean, for me, having sex is like a physical symbol of making love. I know it, I forgot how, but my last girlfriend taught me again. I can't explain it. I'm addicted to lust, but I aspire to making love. I think God has a weird sense of humour putting our highest spiritual instincts in combination with our basest animal ones.

Nah, if you fancy somebody, you can enjoy the lust, if you love somebody, you can enjoy the intimacy, if you fancy someone and you love somebody, you can have any combination of the two, depending on circumstances.

That's how I see it anyway.
