What's the best way to peel a butternut squash ?

I have a very sharp bog standard potato peeler from the dollar store and it does a fine job of peeling squash. :) Doesn't take too much off, and takes about 7 seconds, sorted. :)

2nd vote for the good grips Y peeler which I bought after a recommendation from Mrs M a couple of years ago. Nothing else comes close!

I'll be making the bns and barley stew myself this week!

it is really scrummy and my kids stuff themselves with it and come back for more. I've played about with different herbs and now do it in my slow cooker for a really easy and scrummy meal.

Why didn't I see this thread before giving up on the bastards.

Looks like the squash will make a pumpkin like return to the Suplex household.

Hmm, may have to try that technique and buy one of them peelers.

The only Good Grips product that ever disappointed was the potato masher. Really comfortable to use, but the welding gave way after a few months.

yes, the good grips peeler is the best. Actually, most of their instruments are fantastic, but they're very very expensive.

Are they?

I think the peeler cost me about £4 and taking the swearing out of peeling a squash makes it good value.

£3.99 from Lakeland. And they last forever pretty much so good value in my book :)

I've never used a peeler to peel a squash, I always use a knife. I might nip to Lakeland tomorrow

well, that peeler has actually got my partner peeling potatoes without the usual constant stream of complaints about being made to actually 'cook'. So it's got to be great.

I got mine in the States and it was $12 with tax. It doesn't sound so bad when you convert that to pounds, but that's a lot of dollars it seems for a vegetable peeler!

I guess 'very very' is a bit OTT, though. :o

It will last forever though - that's 12 bucks for a lifetime of peeling power.

Doesn't that make you feel better?
