What's New With Dubstep?

He's doing sort-of dubstep too now :D

-Simply everyone's doing it these days dahhhhling. <swishes mink coat over shoulder> :D

I did watch a very recent interview with Jack Dangers the other day where he was saying he does listen to a lot of dubstep at the mo'. Maybe the teachers are going to learn something from the pupils...

Well I think it's really healthy - I think it's a kind of validation for what people like Dangers were doing before. With proper sound systems on one side (Iration etc) and people like Dangers, it puts dubstep in its proper context. Much as I like grime, dubstep seems more open and willing to experiment and explore. As long as it doesn't end up in too much wanky fusion stuff. :(

True, true. I've got older ears than most, and I really can't help but hear dubstep from that kind of perspective.

As if it's not obvious enough, I'm not even going to pretend I know much about dubstep or any other of the genres that people are listening to these days. :o :D

I do like a lot of the stuff I hear though, and like yourself, I'll just take the opportunity now to say thanks to everybody who's so far posted up some names to check. :)

(and I wasn't that impressed with the Benga album, for example)...

I bought the Benga album in Rough Trade and yes, there’s a couple of killers and a lot of fillers. However, it did come with a Rough Trade mix that he had done which was the absolute business – so that almost compensated for the album being a bit dull. Well worth looking to see if on soulseek I would say…
