I live less than a mile away from St Peter's Brewery.
St Peter's Hall is a lovely 13th-century building (the oldest parts) that still has part of its moat. It's now a pub restaurant.
I've worked there a couple of times. The kitchen has a crypted roof.
Many of the architectural features like the stone mullion windows were salvaged from a local priory during the reformation. It's a fascinating place to work.
The brewery is in sheds behind the hall.
I think I've found it
My fav litre
I like a good IPA (Marsdons old empire for one) but I'm not really a fan of the USA grapefruity versions of IPA which to me are teeth grindinly over hoppy..... But are quite easily available... But, but, but..... Errr and cheapish....
Soos.... had my 1.5 litre freezer chilled stein out cause I fancied a mission.... got a box of Miguel.. ... and I hit this...
San Miguel 50/50 with a lidl hatherwood generic USA IPA.... both at 5%....
Totally rules, yes. Yes...
Early afternoon too.... Nice
In Aldis this afternoon getting some supplies, was getting some larger and a coffee stout which I'm quite partial too. Seen this next to it...Soos try it out I thought.......!
I like a good stout or a porter as a treat, but this is...... not a repeat purchase... For sure......!!
Nasty chemical sweetener aftertaste under an unpleasant stout.... Even the aroma of it offends my sinuses...
I think they started with hersheys as a chocolate taste profile then experimented downhill from there... It's a steep slope.... I'm actually considering the sink for the remainder....
Ah well, clear the taste with a Miguel methinks....
Alongside my standard westons vintage I'm doing a head to head comparison of these two.
Edited to add:
S-Crush unsurprising tastes a fair amount like a S-Ice. It's pretty light in flavor and rather sweet. You get a hint of the alcohol as it is 6% but it's mostly like a sweeter version of a sprite. Mostly sweet, a touch of sour, maybe a ghost of lime. I wouldn't call it unpleasant and it is 6% so it's getting the job done but it's unremarkable otherwise. Would probably appreciated it more when i was younger
Hooch is weaker at 3.4% but it makes up for by being 200% better at being a lemonade. While not being the the best lemonade in the world it does a solid job of it and it is closer to a San Pellegrino limonata than a Sprite. Just under something like a club lemon.
While that sounds like damning with faint praise I sincerely mean that this is one of the more agreeable alchopops.
I will probably not get the crush again but if I'm totally up for a cheeky hooch now and again. Their blue tropical is also pretty decent.
